LLMYCYCnOI OF Txu Iop Ir PNONOITto. With respect to skin cancer, the picture in the USSR differs greatly from that in capitalistic countries where free medictl treatment is unobtainable. In the USSR mortality from skin cancer amounts to only 0.1% of the total of cancer deaths. Former methods of treating cancers gave way to surgery and later to irra- diation with X-ray and radium. However, these treatments are very expensive and effective only if the cancerous growth does not extend too deeply. V. G. Gordeyev, Candidate of Medical Sciences, who was awarded a 1951 Stalin Prize for this work, developed a new method of treatment for skin can- cer. He combined a number of caustics and anesthetics into one preparation, Gordeyev's Liquid, which, when injected into the cancerous growth, destroys it, also acting on the surrounding healthy tissues in a similar manner as the bio- stimulants secreted in tissue therapy following application of Academy V. P.. Filatov's method. In this preparation, the destructive action of one drug is supplemented by the stimulating action of others. In 24 hours after injection of the liquid into the tumor, a scab forms which falls off after 5 - 6 days.. The scar which remains after disappearance of the tumor heals rapidly. The treatment is painless; in fact the tissues are made insensitive. It is necessary to conserve the high salt concentration of the preparation for rapid and deep destructive action on the diseased tissues. Experiments with the new treatment are conducted in clinics of the USSR under observation of the Ministry of Public Health. Excellent results have been reported, even in cases of long-standing, neglected skin cancer. The remedy is also very effective in the treatment of slowly healing skin tumors other than cancer, tuberculosis of the skin, leishmaniasis, and other diseases. 51RB f- 8I DISTRIBUTION SEG RET Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/10/17: CIA-RDP80-00809A000700030361-6
