ORDERS USSR TINKER iNDiISTRY TO COfiSh~RVE ELECTRIC POWER Electric power requirements of timber managements, rafting roadsteads, saw- mills, tie-cutting plants, repair shops, and other enterprises of the Ministry of;/Timber Industry aie increasing encrmously every year. While mobile electric power plants of various capacities supply much of the requirement, d.emanda on the regional power systems are growing. The supervisors oP many erterprlsea do not pay enough attention to ques- tions of ea?.ing power, utllizirg it rationally, and combating waste. Much information has been cccumulated cn unproductive consumption and waste o.? elec- tric power due to leas than full utllizar,ton of mar_hirery and less than full work loads on equipment. Unneressary use of eiectrtc pover for heating pur- poses has also not yet been eliminated For the purpose of attaining strictly economical and rational utilization of electric pover, Orlov, Minister of Timber Industry USSR, has issued an order ac- cording to xhich the chiefs of all main admir,is+.ra+lons, the chief of Molotovlee (Molutov Timber) Combine, and all union-repub:i- and autoromcub-republic MSnis- ters of Timber Industry are charge3 with working out, and confirming by 1 Decem- ber 1951 a plan Por each individual enterprise and organization to save power and to raise the power factcr in 1952. To implement the power cor^ervation program, all suggestions for saving electric po~~:r, which were g-epcaed and fer which premiums were paid in all- union competitions between X945 end 1950, must be put into efYect. For enterprises receiving power from the system eP the Minis?ry of Elec- tric Power Stations, the power factor must reach a level not less than 0.9. The scientific research institutes TeRIIME (Central Scientific Research Institute of Mechanization and power Engineering in Logging) and TeNIIMUD (Central Scientific Research Institute for Mechanical good processing) have been ordered to prepare by 1 Septe'iber 1952 instructions Por setting up tech- nically correct norms of electric paver coneiusptlon in the various production ~?, phases of the Min?ntry of Timber Industry: According to the order, a change x111 be made in the present statute con- cerning premium payments to industrial enterprise personnel to the effect that premiums of power economy supervisory personnel will be cut 25 percent~for.non- obeervance of established electric power ccrsumpt.ion norms an3 failure to meet power conservation and power factor raising plans. Electric power conservation is of enormous national. economic importance. Successful results in this matter x111 be achieved only when all engi*eering and technical xorkera and all other workers asscciatec with operating elec- trical equipment are included in the conservation program.
