To improve discipline and work organization in the brick and tile indus- tries, gang bosses are to be employed. ESTABLISHES WAGES FOR TRANSLATORS -- Budapest, 0. M. B. Kozlony, 31 Oct 51 The National Wage Committee has regulated the wages and bonuses of trans- lators. Permanently employed translators in Group I will receive 1,000-1,400 forints base pay per month. Group I consists of translators of technical and scientific works, books dealing with Marxist ideology, law textbooks, and school books. Group II translators will receive 800-1,200 forints base pay per month for the translation of literary and other works. In addition to their base pay, translators will receive 4-5 forints bonus per page for faultless translation. Bonuses may be paid only if the supervisor attests the accuracy of the translation. Only 60 percent of the bonus may be paid if direct supervision is not available. INCREASES SALARIES OF TEACHERS, OTHER EMPLOYEES -- Budapest, Szabad Nep, 18 Nov 51 The pay of grade school, high school and day nursery teachers and prin- cipals, as well as of foremen and railroad and postal employees has not kept pace with the wages of other worke s . To remedy this situation, the Council of Ministers has increased the salaries of the above categories. Pay of the day nursery, grade ochool, and high school teachers was in- creased by 13, 17 and 14 percent, respectively. Inexperienced teachers will receive 90-120 forints more per month. Overtime pay will be raised. Depart- ment heads, teachers conducting consolidated courses, and rural school teachers will receive additional pay increases. In recognition of their valuable services, the salary of foremen was in- creased by 10 percent. Foundry foremen were granted even higher increases. The base pay of salaried employees of the state railroad was also raised. Towing, maintenance, and telegraph workers of the railroad were given higher grades. In addition, persons with high achievements will be rewarded according to the provisions of the new bonus system. Salaried employees of the post office will also receive higher pay, and workers in the technical and traffic divisions will be given additional bene- fits. The Council of Ministers has also directed that all postal employees performing more than 6 hours of duty per day be furnished uniforms. Effective date of the pay increases for teachers and postal and railroad employees is 1 January 1952, and for foremen, 1 November 1951. GRANTS PAY INCREASES TO SHOP FOREMEN -- Budapest, 0. M. B. Kozlony, 20 Nov 51 Recognizing the excellent performance of shop foremet, the Council of Min- isters has issued Decree No 200/1951 (XI. 18.) M. T., ordering an increase in their base pay. Provisions of the decree are as follows: Base pay of shop chiefs, fcremen, and assistant foremen must be increased. The amount of the raise should reflect credit on the industries, as well as on the various shops from the viewpoint of significance and productivity. As a basis for the increased wages of foremen, Pour categories shall be es- tablished ccmmensurate with the economic importance of the enterprises. At the request of the trade unions and the Council of Ministers, the National Wage Committee will set up the four categories. The decision of the National Wage Committee is subject to the final approval of the National Economic Coun- cil. Within an enterprise, three shop categories, according to their importance, shall be established. Based on the directives of the ministry and the trade unions, the manager of the enterprise will set up the three categories. With- out the approval of the ministry, the manager may not deviate from the direc- tives governing the establishment of the categories. This decree is not applicable to shop chiefs, foremen, and assistant fore- men employed in the building, coal, steel, bauxite, and petroleum industries. M. B. Kozlony, 31 Oct 51 The National Economic Council has issued a directive relative to the wages of workers delegated to attend full-time schools, courses, and training camps maintained by state and social organizations. During the period of instruction students receive half of their average monthly Pay. However, Stakhanovite students will be given special privileges. Vacation benefits of the students may not be curtailed because of school parti- cipation. During the course; the worker-students may not be dismissed by the employers. In regard to civil service employees, the execution of this directive is the responsibility of the National Wage Committee. Schooling of members of the armed forces is entrusted to the Ministee of Defense. This directive is not applicable to scrods and courses established for the training of skilled labor.
