The city of Tbiliei produced the following amounts of food products in 1950, vegetable oils 2,150 metric tors, margarine 5,471.7 metric tons, industrial soap 6,607.9 metric ten?, table wine 696.2 decaliters, champagne 3,431,000 bottles, and 4,859,200,000 cigsrertee.(2i There are now 50 tea factories in the republic, as compared with only three in 1925. The Tbilisi Tea Factory began operating in 1941, and is one of the most successful enterprises of the Ministry of Food Industry USSR. During the Fourth Five Year Plan the Mukhayestatskiy, Guriantskiy, Lesichinskiy, and Gadautskiy tea factories were built and began operations. (3.1 The Ingirskiy and Kocharskiy tea factories began operating in 1949, and reached full capac- ity in 1950. Eight new tea factories will be built and put, into partial oper- ation in 1951, including the Ganakhlebskiy, Tsalendzhikskiy (4), Achkvirakty Bakhvekiy Palendzhikskiy, Sadzhidzhavskiy, and Chuburiskhindzbskly fac- tories.(3) The new Tbilisi Lemonade Plant will begin production in the second quar- ter 1951. The Sai.rme Fruit Liqueur Plant, now under construction, will begin production before the end of 1951 with an annual capacity of 2 million bottles. The first chocolate factory in the Transcaucasus region began operations in Tbilisi in 1950. A new confection factory will be built in Tbilisi in 1951. The Kardabakhekiy and 01`chinskiy wineries will be built in 1951. New breweries are under construction In Sukhumi and Kutaisi. Construction of a new brewery in Batumi will be completed in the second quarter 1951. Pdkeries are now under construction, and will be in full operation by the end of 1951, in the cities of Tskhaltubo, Chiatura, and Gagra.(4) Construction ha; tegun on a bakery in Rustavi which will have a 24-hour capacity of 36 metric tons of bread and bakery goode.(6) The Tbilisi Champagne plant, located near Avchala Station, has received new equipment which will increase its annual capacity to 4,100,000 bottles in 1951.(6) Azerbaydzhan SSR In 1950, 12 percent more canned food was produced in the republic than.in 1949; this Increase was due largely to the production of the Khachmas Cannery which serves the Kuba-Khachmas region, where more than half of the republic's fruit is grown. In 1950, the Khacbmas Cannery produced 22,630,800 jars of food.(7) A mineral water bottling plant is being built near the Isti-su Thermal Springs, on the right bank of the Terter-chay River in Kel'badz2harskiy Rayon. The plant will be completed in 1952 with an annual capacity of million bot- tles of mineral water.(8) Kazakh SSR Orchards, berry patches, and vineyards now occupy about 25,000 hectares in the republic. During the past 10 years, land devoted to orchards and berry patches in North-Kazakhstan Oblast has increased almost 100 times; at present, it covers 3,024 hectares.
