DATE DIST. /O-O3Mar 1952 NO. OF PAGES 2 SUPPLEMENT TO REPORT NO. THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION SUBSTITUTE WOODEN PIPE FOR IRON PIPE BEGIN SERIAL PRODUCTION OF WOODEN PIPE -- Belgrade, Politika, 6 Aug 51 Maribor, 5 August -- The Municipal Construction Enterprise Workshop in Maribor has recently begun the serial construction of wooden pipe which is to be used in water systems, sewage systems in industrial enterprises, and for pipelines, tubing, and other irrigation equipment. Having an internal diameter of 80 centimeters, this pipe withstands water pressure of 6 atmospheres. It in more flexible than iron pipe, and can withstand changes in temperature well. During September, production is to begin on wooden pipe with an internal diam- eter of 2 meters, which is to be used in hydroelectric power plants. The production of wooden pipe as a substitute for iron pipe will result in savings of millions of dinars in foreign exchange credits, because Yugoslavia has had to export large quantities of wood to pay for the import of iron pipe. The best material for this pipe is fir, spruce, and especially larch from the Pokljuka region in Gorenjeko and the hilly areas of Pohorje. The pipe is not completely made of wood, but is reinforced with coils of steel wire wound around the exterior. The Municipal Construction Enterprise in Maribor will be able to produce about 400 meters of such pipe daily. Its work- shop is to serve as a foundation for a projected factory in Maribor, which is to be able to fill the demand for wooden pipe in Yugoslavia. ZAGORJE WATER SYSTEM BEING COMPLETED -- Zagreb, Vjesnik, 3 Jul 51 Split, 2 July -- In Sibenik and Drnis srezes, the Zagorje water system is under construction. Next to the Istrien system, this is the largest water sys- tem in Yugoslavia. By a system of pumping stations and reservoirs, water will be supplied from small Tore Lake on the left bank of the Krka River to the en- tire area between Arnie and Perkovic which has more than 40,000 inhabitants.
