According to the Northwe,., Gr,rmen Radio in West Berlin, the East German
People's Folice numbers 79,210 men at present. In addition, there are about
75,003 policemen and border patrols in the GDR. These figures are to be in-
creased it .1952.
Sever, officers' ';raining ach ole, can special schools, and six special
maneuver grounds are reicg operated by the People's Police in the GDR, in addi-
tion to the Soviet of?icers' training schools in Leningrad, Volsk, and Kuybyshev,
where 400 officer; of the People's Police are being trained.
Some 280 Soviet tanks, more than 80 reconnaissance cars, 40 rocket launch-
ers, and 40 cannot have been made available to the People's Police for training
purposes. In addition, 15 jet fighter planes, 5 Jet bombers, 18 fighter planes,
and 17 bombers are at the disposal of the Air Police, which has units stationed
in 19 East German `owns. Its headgno.rters is in Berlin-Johannisthal.
SOVIET. EAST GERMAN POLICE AT CZECH BORDER -- Buenos Aires, Argentinisches Tage-
olatt, 1 Dec 11
Berlin -- East German sources report that 20,000 Soviet and 2,000 East
German Fulicemen are to carry out special assignments at the Czech border, as
of January 1952. Reportedly, these formations will hold winter maneuvers to-
gether with the Czechs.
MEMBERS OF PEOPLE'S POLICE FLEE GDR -.. Buenos Aires, Argentinisches Tageblatt,

Berlin -- During the last 18 months, 1,847 members of the People's Police
have fled from the GDR and Berlin's Soviet sector to West Berlin. The number
of deserters has been increasing from month to month.
