THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION _'_ ELECT .: JO O TRADE U&ION FLINCTIONJ IES lnt-wetn IC January and. 1 O obe^ l9;%, 250,000 functionaries of the National Coun_i,. of Trade Union? v!,1 b'_ e_.cted, The trade unions are the largest organization of the working masses and, as the organisers of work competitions, they render direct service to the party in regard to production During the past 1, years, the it ortance of trade unions has conei.ierably increased, since they ha'.e to educate constantly a great number of workers to carry Out party and government resolutions. Another mission is the futherance of discipline in large-scale industry and creation of incentives for the Social_?st vory competitions The principal aim of the elections is the strengthening of the trade unions so that they can cope with their important task. An ade, uate political indoctri- nation campaign is the prerequisite for the success of the elections. However, certain organs of the trade unions, due mainly to inimical, Social Democratic influence, are apt to _'rd.uct the campaign with bureaucratic methods instead of real agitation and political indoctrination, Only workers who are ready to defend. the party's policy and fight for the interests of the working class shoul?? be elected. This goal, however, cannot be accompiiahed without a vigorcus campaign. The enemy, hirelings of the right- wing Social Democrat_a and imperialists, will try to infiltrate the leadership of the trade union= since it Jas become increasingly difficult for them to smuggle their ^en intc the party organizations. Vigilance of the masses must prevent these hirelings from attaining their aims. The election results should be a manfestetion of a new incentive for Social- ist .Ompetition, Stakhanovite and innovation movements, tightening of discipline, bigger production, and fulfilling and exceeding the plans.
