DEVELOPS NEW WELDING TECHNIQUE Leningradskaya Pravda, 25 Oct 51
The Leningrad Elektrik Plant has developed a new welding method which
makes it possible to weld thick sheets or strips of metal and to weld aluminum
to copper, which cannot be done electrically.
To weld 'Iva maul plates, the plates are placed one on top of the other
and subjected to great p.eas+.Lce by a press. The new process is easier and
chesper and eliminates the reed cf ?cmplloated apparatus.

A large planer capable of performing the most complicated operations. has
recently been ahippT:,r to the fittings shop of the Riga REZ Plant. The planer
is made by `,be Minsk Machine Tool Building Plant.
Thy Leningrad Elektrik Plant shipped an order of automatic welding equip-
ment to the Riga P.EZ Plant, which added greatly to the speed and quality of
product ion.

A. Dyshenko and V. Fedotov of the Kolomna Locomotive-Building Plant imeni.
Kuybyshev have developed an automatic shut-off device to disconnect welding ma-
chines when they are not in actual use.
The device was used for 3 months, and proved so efficient that the plant 1s
now preparing to equip all welding machines with automatic disconnecting
switches.

NEW APPARATUS CONTROLS STREET LIGHTfIG -- Moscow, Moekovskaya Pravda, 1 Dec 51
Associates of the Academy of Communal Economy imeni Pamfilov in Moscow have
developed a new type of apparatus for centralizing the control of street illumi-
nation.
The new apparatus has many advantages over existing ones, especially those
abroad. It permits one person not only to switch the lights on and off in var..
ious parts of the city, but also to regulate the intensity of lighting in re-
lation to the rise and fall of traffic. This permits a 30 percent saving in
electric power. The apparatus is provided with a device which automatically
signals the dispatcher whenever any sector of the lighting system gets out of
order.
PRODUCES NEW ELECTRICAL MEASURING INSTRUMENTS -- Yerevan, Kommunist, 22 Dec 51
The Yerevan Elektrotuohpribor Plant has organized the production of new
types of electrical measuring instruments. The plant recently began producing
photocolorimeLers of a new design and electric current detectors.
Completing its November plan, the plant produced 20 photocolorimetere de-
signed to determine the percentage of mineral and salt content of liquids. Ten
electric current detectors were also produced.

products, among them an electrical device for regulating air temperature in
railway passenger coaches. The device is to be used on trains in Central Asia

Innovators of the Riga Electrical Installations Parts Plants are continuing
to work on the technical problems involved in lowering production costs.
The variety of nonferrous metal required for the production program has
diminished since 1950, while the variety and quality of products made have in-
creased. The plastic, carbolite, is widely used in the production of electrical
installations parts. The production cost of plastic parts is reduced by a 30
percent addition of powdered glass 'c.sfore pressing.
There are many enterprises in Riga, such as the VEF Plant, the Radio Plant
imeni Popov, the Electrical Fixtures Flant, and others, where parts are pressure
molded from plastic.
Ho :ver, there is no organized exchange of production experiences among the
plants, end problers already solved in one plant may continue at another.

INCREASES VARIETY OF PRODUCTS TO 300 -- Leningradskaya Pravda, 11 Jan 52
The Tokarevka Electrical Porcelain Plant in 1951 perfected over 100 types
of new products. The variety of types of goods is now being increased by an-
other 200 products. The plant perfected 15 of these during the first 10 days
of January.
Orders are being filled for the Volga-Don, and Stalingrad, and Kuybyshev
construction projects.
STARTS PRODUCTION OF ELECTRIC SAWS -- Leningradskaya Pravda, 3 Oct 51
The Vyborg Electric Tool Plant, erected during the postwar Five-year plan,
manufactures a great quantity of electric tools.
Recently, the plant started the production of hand operated electric saws,
designed for the lengthwise and crosscut sawing of wood.

The Likino Machine Building Plant maintains a map of the USSR which indi-
cates the destination of each, of the mobile electric power stations which the
plant produces.
Two such PES-60 stations were sez+ this morning to the Stalingrad hydro_
electric project.
The plant has developed its technology to the point of reducing the pro-
duction cycle of this station Sy 112 hours.
