THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION HEALTH MINISTRY STEPS UP OUTPUT OF DRUGS ANTIBIOTICS EXPAND OUTPUT OF DRUGS, MEDICAL INSTRUMENT'S -- Moscow, Izvestiya, 3 Feb 52 In 1952, en*erprises of the Ministry of Health are greatly increasing pro- duction of drugs which have proven effective in medical practice. The variety of types of antibiotics is being expanded. Along with penicillin and strepto- mycin, "albomycin , a preparation for treating a nuwber of children's diseases, is being more widely used. Synthomycin has turned out very well in the treat- ment of dysentery, especially in childern. A syL"somycin emulsion has proved to be effective against trachoma. The production of synthetic hormones such as methyl testosterone, testosterone, etc., is giving the physician effective weap- ons against a whole series of diseases. In the last few years the store of drugs for the treatment of tuberculosis has been enlarged. PASK and "?Pibon" are find- ing azccassful application. Much attention is being paid to expanding the prodution and improving the quality of medical instruments and equipment. The output of diagnostic medical apparahus is also being expanded. The gastroscope and other instruments, for ex- ample, are making it possible to examine the inner organs by means of electric illumination and the transmission of an optical image, LIMITS PRODUCTION TO THREE PROrT;CTS -- Riga, Sovetskaya Latviya, 18 Jan 52 Last year the cost of med-al preparations put out by the Riga Pharmaceuti- cal Plant was reduced 26.5 percent. In 1952 the plant faces important new tasks. Its scope will be sharply limited, for it will produce only synthetic prepara- tions, PASK, furacylin, and terpinol hydrate. Output of PASK is being increased 47 percent, and output of terpinol hydrate is being more than doubled. Work is now being done on re-equipment of the shops for the production of PASK and the preparation of terpinol hydrate. The production cycle has been cut, which mrkes it possible to prepare more of this preparation with less equipment. Workers and specialists at the enterprise are striving to master output of new medical preparations. -- S. In 1951 the plan was fulfilled in every item by 1 December, production costs were reduced, and quality of out- put was improved. As a result of intensive research and organizat;onal and technical work, the coefficients of utilization of equipment were increased. Hence, the plant produced consid"rably more m. .4 cal preparations than in 1950. Production of pyramidon, otreptocide, and rivanol increas^d greatly. In 1952, the plant must increase okt_it 11 times and reduce production costs, in spite of the fact that equipment is now apparently being fully utilized. All possible measures are being taken to further improve production. In the production of paranitrobenzoic acid, th ..aethod of feeding materia:s for the chemical reaction was changed. Oil of vitriol was supplied from above, and bichromate from below. The change made it possible to speed up the process and to increase output of acid. A new method was also worked out for continuous cold washing and d.,,ring of ethyl acetate. This had been one of the bottlenecks of the plant, which slowed down the output of pyramidon. Productivity of this operation is now doubled. SETS UP NEW SHOP FOR VITAMIN E -- Petrozavodsk, Leninskqe Znamya, 27 Jan 52 A shop for the i.perimental production of Vitamin E has been set up at the Kiev Vitamin Plant. The plant is fitted out with first-class equipment. Tests on the apparatus and machines have produced good results. PRODUCES 15 IIFZ4S IN AMPULES -- Yerevan, Konnmxnist, 8 Feb 52 The ampule shop of the Yerevan Pharmaceutical Chemical Plant of he Pharma- ceutical Administration is producing almost 15 types of different preparations in ampules. The shop fulfilled its January plan 140 percent. Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/10/06: CIA-RDP80-00809A000700060083-2
