ORGANIZE PARTY CORRESPONDENCE COURSES IN RUMANIA
The A. A. Zhdanov Higher Institute of Social Sciences is organizing a corre-
spondence course to provide party personnel employed in production with training
equivalent to that of a graduate of the institute. The program of study is the
same as that offered at the school itself. The length of the course is years.
It began on 25 October 1951. During the first year the following subjec' are
taught: Marxism_Leninism, party structure, history of the Rumanian People's
Republic, and Russian language. Students will be provided with texts and bibli-
ographical references. Individual written consultations and consultations through
the press will be organized. Collective centers for consultation will be estab
lished in principal cities such as Bucharest, Cluj, Iasi, Stalin, Timisoara, and
others.
Students will turn in a written theme sometime during the first 3 rnths of
the year. A seminar will be held from 15 to 20 January for half the students and
from 20 to 25 January for the rest; students will be granted one week's leave to
go to Bucharest to attend. Students will receive 3 weeks' leave for examinations,
which are organized in two series,- 15 June - 20 July, and 25 August - 1 September,
also in Bucharest. Organizations and institutes at which students are employed
are called upon to create favorable study conditions, and are asked not to assign
tasks which will interfere with preparation. Correspondence students cannot be
required to take party courses in other schools, but may attend university classes
in Marxism-Leninism.
During the first year, 200 students comprising party instructors, membe_s of
the state apparatus and of economic and cultural institutes, and representatives
of popular organizations took correspondence courses. Special preference will be
given to those who have completed courses at the A. A. Zhdanov Central School,
those who have had 6 months at the Stefan Gheorghiu University, or those who have
had courses in Marxism-Leninism at universities or UTM (Union of Working Youth),
or CGM (General Confederation of Labor) schools.

It is especially recommended that secretaries and members of bureaus, chiefs
of sections in regional committeeo, and other responsible activists sign up.
F1ve regional commissions will be established to consider candidates. These
will be is Bucharest, Stalin, lass, Cluj, and Timisoara. In addition to those
rece?iended by regional party comaitteee, Individual members who desire to par-
ticipate is the courses may apply with the approval of the respective regional
party committee.
