For Years, Soviet researchers have been working with Eisner Vadasz and
Jeno Noszly in the region vest of the Danube where, according to the calcu-
lations of Hungarian geologists, there are deposits of manganese.
Reliable reports have been received from the Urkut and the Zirc-Epleny
regions 50th in Veszprem Megye,, where the first two Soviet-Hungarian manga-
nese mines are already operating. The mined ore is shipped to the USSR.
Small deposits of manganese have also been found in the Gerecse Mountains,
but there exploitation of the ore has not yet started.

theory of domestic manganese ores (Budapest, Szabad Nep, 20 Mar 52)_]
CLAIM ABUNDANCE OF REFRACTORY MATERIALS -- Budapest, Repszava, 11 Apr 52
Postwar discovery of mineral deposits has amply provided Hungary with
refractory materials and bentonites. New state subsidies will assure exploi-
tation of the deposits.
A plant for processing silica brick ingredients is to be built this year,
and will make silica brick export possible. A mineral milling plant, a re-
fractory material refinery, and a kaolin wet-processing plant are also scheduled
for construction this year.
