A great part of the petroleum strata of the Emba petroleum region ie
characterized by the fact that the deposits do not lie at a great depth. In
moat cases wElls are sunk at the rate of one yell per hectare oP petroleum
area.
In 1944, con*,oural flooding ws carried out for the first time 1n the
Emba region by forcing water down to the II Jurassic horizon in Dossor and
to the 1 Jurassic horizon in Makat. These horizons are characterized by a
large number of low-yield exploitational yells and a relatively large amount
of residue petroleum. The original pressure in these horizons had been
I4-15 atmospheres, but during exploitation this pressure wea lowerei: and,
et the time when contoural flooding was first adopted here, the pressure was
only 1-4 atmospheres.
The results of contoural flooding in the Dossor and Makat oil fields in-
dicated that this method of exploitation was highly effective. By February
1945, the average daily output from the exploitational wells was more than
Y.wice the original output.
