Last night's lowest temperature in Moscow was 16 degrees below zero; it was
2 degrees below zero at noon today.(1)
Temperatures yesterday morning were -22 degrees on Dikson Island, -16 on
Novaya Zemlya, -14 in Moscow and Arkhangelsk, -13 in Murmansk, -9 in Tallin,
..-6.-in Rigs and Sverdlovsk, -6 in Kiev, 3 degrees above zero in Odessa, 15 in
? Sochi, 22 in Ashkhabad, and 25 in Yalta.
Testerday's temperatures in Leningrad 'ere 14 degrees below zero during the
morning, one degree below zero during the day-(2)
On 29 March, a mss of wean air was expected to reach Belorussia, so that
temperatures in the republic would rise. However, the warm air touched mainly
the southern regions of the Ukraine and affected the Belorussian SSR only
slightly, with the result tbet temperatures rose little and anew fell in Brest,
Pinsk, and Poles'ye oblarts.
Yesterday's daytime temperatures were -5 degrees in Mogilev and Gomel', -4
in Minsk and Polotsk, -3 in Grodno and Slutek, and -2 in Brest and Lel'chitsy.(3)

Last night's lowest temperature in Moscow 1-6 7 degrees below zero; it was

Rar'yan-Mar, -20 in Rueekaya Gavan', -19 in Arkhangelsk, -14 in Sverdlovsk,-12
in Moscow, -10 in Gor'kiy, -9 in Saratov, -8 in Stalingrad, -6 in Tallin and
Minsk, -4 in Riga and Rostov-on-Don, zero in Kiev, 6 degrees above zero in
Odessa, 8 in Yalta, 12 in Sochi, and 18 in Tashkent.
Yesterday's temperatures in Leningrad Were 6 degrees below zero during the
morning, zero during the day.(2)
Yesterday, it became considerably warner in Belorussia as a result of the
spreading of warm air from the Balkans over the republic. At 1500 hours, tem-
peratures were -3 degrees in Orsha, -2 in Vitebsk, Mogilev, and Polotek, -1 in
Minsk, zero in Gomel It Vileyka, and Bobruysk, one degree above zero in Mozyr, 3
degrees in Grodno, 4 in Pinsk and Baranovichi, 7 in Pruzhany, and 11 in Brest.(3)
3 April
This morning, cloudy vea.:ner with snowfall was observed on Kola Peninsula,
in Karelo-Finnish SSR, Arkhangelsk and Vologda oblasts, and the Middle Volga
Region. It was warm in the southern Ukraine, Crimea, and Caucasus. Light frosts
occurred in the rest of the European USSR.
Temperatures at 0900 hours were -9 degrees in Chkalov, -8 in Leningrad and
Molotov, -7 in Kuybyshev, -6 in Smolensk dnd Kazan', -5 in Arkhangelsk and Tal-
lin, -4 in Orel, -3 in Vologda and Minsk, -2 in Riga and Lvov, -1 in Gomel',
Saratov, and Voronezh, zero in Poltava, Kharkov, and Tambov, one degree above
zero In Kishinev and Odessa, and 15 degrees in Yalta.
Last night's lowest temperature in Moscow was 6 degrees below zero; it was
2 degrees below zero at noon today.(1)
During the past 24 hours, the warmer weather of 1 April was replaced by
cooler weather accompanied by considerable precipitation. At 1500 hours, tem-
peratures throughout the Belorussian SSR ranged between zero and one degree
above zero.(3)
Spring has cove to Yakut ASSR.. The weather is generally sunny and calm.
Today, the daytime temperature in Yakutsk was 2 degrees above zero. In ,:ie
southern portion of the republic, kolkhoz workers have begun to expose their
seed stocks to the warmth of the ^an. Preparations are under way to drive the
reindeer herds to sunnier pastures.(4)

Last night's lowest temperature in Moscow was 8 degrees below zero; it was

On 3 April, cloudy weather with clearing was observed in the Estonian SSR.
Light snow fell locally. The wind moderated during the day.(5)

This horning, ovezcast weather with light snowfall was observed in Novgorod,
Kalinin, and Arkhangelsk oblasts and in the eastern European USSR.
Last night's lowest temperature in Moscow was 7 degrees below zero; it was

Yesterday's temperatures in Leningrad were 2 degrees above zero during the
morning, 10 degrees during the day.(2)
During the last 2-3 days, the weather in Belorussia has been warm and the
snow has been melting rapidly. The snow cover in the republic has been reduced
considerably and remains only locally in Brest, Pinsk, Poles 'ye, and Bobruysk
oblasts.
Yesterday, daytime temperatures were 6 degrees in Orsba, 7 in Polotsk and
Vitebsk, 8 in Grodno, Brest, Gomel', and Mogilev, 9 in Minsk, 10 in Pinsk, and

ern European USSR, southern Ukraine, and Caucasus.
Temperatures at 0900 this morning were -7 degrees in Nar'yan-Mar, -4 in
Stalingrad, -3 in Kuybyshev, Smolensk, and Ryazan', -1 in Gor'kiy and Kiev, zero
in Saratov, Kalinin, and Rbarr'kov,.one degree above zero in Kazan', Kirov, and
Vologda, 2 degrees in Rostov, Odessa, Riga, Minsk, Murmansk, and Molotov, 3 in
Astrakhan', Leningrad, and Syktyvkar, 4 in Arkhangelsk, 6 in Kaliningr d, and

This morning, rain and snow fell In Stalingrad and Rostov oblasts, the
Northern Caucasus, the Black Sea shore of the Caucasus, the Crimea, and the east-
ern Ukraine. Snow fell locally in Kalinin, Yaroslavl', and Vologda oblasts.
Warm, cloudy weather was observed in Komi ASSR. Mostly slightly cloudy weather
continued in the rest of the European USSR.
Temperatures at 0900 this morning were -6 degrees in Chkalov, -4 in Orel,
-2 in Voronezh and Kuybyshev, -1 in Kiev, Kharkov, and Stalingrad, zero in

half of the European USSR.

During the last 5 days, the snow continued to melt rapidly in Belorussia.
It has disappeared in Gomel', Bobruyak, and Grodno oblasts and remains lying
only locally Id' the rest of the republic.

Yesterday's temperatures in Leningrad wer- 3 degrees above zero during the

Yesterday, sunny, warm weather continued throughout the Belorussian SSR.

Warm weather has again been replaced during the last days by comparatively
cool weather accompanied by strong winds. Light rains fell locally in the west-
ern foothill regions of the Turkmen SSR. Temperatures fell as much as 2.0 de-
grees, especially in the western portion of the republic, but remain generally
high and are favorable for the continued development of agricultural crops.
The growth and development of winter grains, both irrigated and unirrigated,
continues. Winter barley has begun to head; it averages 40-b0 centimeters in
height. Alfalfa is in good condition; it is in the stem development stage.

In the southern half of the republic, grapes are developing the third leaf.
Fruit trees have generally finished flowering. In the northern portion of the
republic, grapes are only developing buds.
Soil temperatures are also rising. At the 10-centimeter depth, the average
temperature has risen to 17-19 degrees, 10-15 degrees in the northern portion
of the republic. Consequently, cotton sown early is sprouting in many areas.
The warm weather is expected to continue during the next 2-3 daym.(6)

This morning, the weather in the European USSR except in the northern and
northeastern regions was warm and mostly slightly cloudy. Fog was recorded in
the central European USSR. Snow fell in Komi ASSR and locally in Arkhangelsk
and Murmansk oblasts.
Temperatures at 0900 this morning were -5 degrees in Nar'yan-Mar, -4 in
Murmansk, -1 in Arkbangel'sk, zero in Kuybyshev, one degree above zero in Kirov,
2 degrees in Leningrad and Tallin, 3 in Vologda and Smolensk, 6 in Petrjzavodsk,

This morning, slightly cloudy, warm weather continued in most of the Euro-
pean USSR. It was cloudy and snow fell locally only on Kola Peninsula and in
the northern European USSR.

The prevailing warm weather is melting the snow rapidly in the Estonian
SSR. Snow cover remains only in forests and in areas near the sea. The soil
has thawed out to a depth of 10-20 centimeters in most areas and completely in
the southern portion of the republic. The rivers in southeastern Estonia have
become ice-frees. (5)

SSR. They were heaviest in the central portion of the republic. It became
cooler as a result of the entrance of nnld air from the north into the republic.
Temperatures at 1500 hours were 6 degrees in Polotek, Bychikha, and Mogilev, 7
in Borisov, 8 in Novogrudok e -A Minsk, 9 in Lida and Baranovichi, and 10 in
Volkovyik and Pruzbany.(3)

This morning, warm weather continued in the southern European USSR. The
weather was cloudy and cool in the northern portion. Rains fell in the Baltic
republics and locally in the Caucasus. Snowfalls were recorded in Leningrad,
Novgorod, Pskov, and Velikiye Luki oblasts and in the southern Urals.
Temperatures at 0900 this morning were -4 degrees in Nar'yan-Mar, -1 in
Syktyvkar and Vologda, zero in Leningrad, Molotov, Tambov, and C:ikalov, one de-
gree above zero in Saratov, Kuybyshev, and Voronezh, 2 degrees in Ufa, 4 in
Stalingrad, 5 in Kharkov and Poltava, 6 in Kiev, 7 in Rostov, 9 in Astrakhan',
11 in Odessa, and 12 in Yalta.

cold in the extreme northeastern European USSR. Cold weather with brief rain
showers and snow flurries prevailed in Murmansk Oblast, most of Arkhangelsk
Oblast, and Komi ASSR and spread to Kirov and Molotov oblasts, Bashkir ASSR,
and imurt ASSR. It was cloudy and cool in Latvia and Lithuania.
