HUNGARIANS GET SOVIET JETS -- Bo_lettir, Danubiano, 22 Mar 5C
Well-informed sources report that the Hungarian Air Force has been re-
organized apd modernized during recent months. According to information received,
the let Fighter Divisio.:I.as been fcrn. , in the environs of'Kunmadaras, where one
of the largest modern military airports n Hungary is located.
The division is equ_Eped with jet planes of the Soviet iIIG-15 type and
old fighters of the Yak-9 type, which ace to be successively replaced by MIG-
15 Jets.
At the same time, several other military airports in Hungary are being
supplied with MIG-15 Jets to be used in trsininF- aviators under the guidance
of Soviet technicians and officers. The trainees are, for the most part, very
young, between 18 and 19 years old.
It is important to note that this let Fighter Division is a "transferable"
unit, that is, the Soviets can make use of it at any time or place.
Ise remainder of the Hungarian Air Force, which is less modern, will either
be used for national air defense or will be reorganized and modernized.

Various sources have confirmed the arrival of new, strong, armored and
motorized units from the USSR at the Rumanian-Yugoslav-Hungarian border at
`eszk, Mako,, and their environs.
It is reported that the headquarters of a Soviet armored division is
located in Kub.khaza. The division's tanks are larger than the T-34s. The
armor is 15 centimeters thick. The gun celiber is 122 millimeters. It ic also
reported that the headquarters of a motorized division is located at Kiszombor,
while armored units, artillery, and cavalry are stationed at Szeged and neigh-
boring villages.

According to the information received, the influx of other new araored
unite from Rumania to Hungary is still continuing.
Because of the brutality of Soviet soldiers, the same acts of violence as
in the first.years of Soviet occupation are recurring in these areas.

Maps have practically disappeared from the market. They are not to be
found even in antiquary shops or street bookstalls.
In accordance with a government decree, the State Cartographic Institute
fl longer furnishes maps to state stationers, libraries, educational associations,
etc.
Only libraries, institutes, ecientific and bibliographic associations, and
other organization controlled by the party are allowed to have maps. Anyone
wishlna to consult maps must make a written application stating the purpose for
.such. a consultation.
