Functions: Matters connected with education and practical cultural and
economic training of women working in agriculture as housewives and mothers'

matters connected with educational content of housewives, training; measures'
connected with the theoretical and practical training of women, aiming at:
a. Utilization of technical and economic progress in agriculture and in
the agricultural household, making use of modern work methods (such as coopera-
tive laundries, bakeries, kitchens, etc.) and modern production and sales
(preparation of agricultural products for market and cooperative selling of
these prLlucts by the cooperatives, etc.) methods.
b. Improved housing, family and health, and hygiene for nursing mothers
and infants; children's education; medical treatment of ill people; matters
connected with the establishment of consultative offices, homes, medical sta-
tions, etc., in rural areas, as well as consultative and information agencies
for housewives, including press, radio, and film services; general cultural
and social theoretical and practical education of agricultural youth and prep-
aration of youth, in collaboration with youth organizations for
participation in agricultural work; the introduction into school edpractical
ucation of
new principles and attitudes about the position and importance of agriculture
and agricultural work in Czecho"lovakia.
Functions also include submitting projects concerning the welfare of women
and youth working in agriculture to the appropriate departments of the Ministry
of Agriculture, as well as to other ministries; editing the magazine Venkovska
Zeno (Country Woman).
When the activity of Section 1/7 touches upon the activity of other de-
partments of the ministry, or those of other ministries, Sect:on 1/7 proceeds
in agreement or in collaboration with these organizations.

carrying out agricultural water supply regulation measures and measures taken

b. On the mechanization of agriculture, on agricultural construction and

prices of the products of nationalized industry, where the farmer is a direct

c. On production in the chemical industry of goods for agriculture (such

tribution of agricultural tools in collaboration with Section IV/l; the allot-
ment of wood and cement for maintenance cork in agriculture; securing the nec-
essary quantity of motor fuels, heating fuels, and oil and distributing these
among farmers; allotments of ropes, tarpaulins for carts, bags, and leather;
UNRRA matters.

The Secretariat of the Produce Exchange is located on the mezzanine of
the exchange building, where all the administrative activity of the exchange
is also centered.
Functions: The object of the Produce Exchange is to simplify, facilitate,
and improve domestic and international trade in agricultural crops, products,
and other goods which can be negotiated on various exchanges b? permission of
the various ministries. The exchange arranges meetings of those engaged in
agricultural production, processing, and trade in agricultural crops, lumber,
flax, fruit, vegetables, eggs, fats, as well as in auxiliary activities such
as insurance, transportation, warehousing, etc. The exchange establishes com-
mercial procedures for these goods and publishes the prices of these goods in
its bulletin. It arbitrates disputes resulting from this type of trade. It
issues expert opinions with regard to these goods. It approves tentative
prices for the calculation of taxes on agricultural real estate. Finally, the
exchange protects the professional interests of its members.

Produce Exchange in Brno
Functions. Same as those of the Produce Exchange in Prague.

Disaster Fund, in Brno
Functions: The fund was established by decree of 7 December 1939, for
the purpose of refunding the land tax and giving support to farmers whose prop-
erty was damaged by natural disasters in the Czech Provinces. Farmerb are to
submit their applications on special forms. These applications are to be con-
sidered and approved by the disaster commissions and by the appropriate section
of the Unified Federation of Czech Farmers, then finally approved by the admin-
istrative committee of the Disaster Fund. The administrative committee, ap-
pointed by the Ministry of Agriculture, is composed of three members. The func-
tions of the administrative committee are now being performed by Dr Josef Ko-
larik, whose deputy is Engr Bedrich Sedlar.
The senior official of the Disaster Fund in Brno is Dr Vaclav Slosar.
Union of Hop Growers of the Zatec Region in Zatec
Function?: The Union of Hop Growers has been established in order to pro-
tect the interests of hop raisers, to train these hop raisers in hop culture,
and to improve hop cultivation in general. Its jurisdiction comprises 14 po-
litical okreses. It carries out registration of hops in obeces where they are
produced, keeps records of hop areas and hop harvests, takes care of sales of
Zatec hops, provides market information and information on hop harvests and
phytopathology, and publishes books on hop culture.
Organization: The union consists of a presidium, a committee, - regional
control commission, and editorial and administrative office of the pt.iodicul
Cesky Chmelar (Czech Eop Grower). It has a commission for providing pickers;
a lumbering rommission for providing stakes for hop plantations; a commission
of specialists in hop growing for technical questions of hop growing; a wire
commission for providing wires, hooks, and cables, and a hops cadastre (land
register of hop plantations).
The union performs its functions through its agents, who reside in 320
obeces of the Zatec region. The union also has a regional control commission
and a local cortrol commission.
Affiliated with the union is the Registering Office in Zatec, which reg-
isters various kinds of hope.
Provincial Association of Ho Growers for Moravia in Trsice Moravia
This is an organization of Moravian hop growers.

The owners of the above-mentioned forests, the area of which totals at
present about 650,000 hectares, are obliged to organize in forest associations,
which in turn are legal persons in civil law. The areas of jurisdiction and
the central offices of the forest associations are established by a decree of
the Ministry of Agriculture, according to which 121 52187 forest associations
have been established. These are at the same time forest administrations, 183
of which are in Bohemia and 38 in Moravia and Silesia.
Functions: The Federation of Forest Associations does all work requiring
expert forestry training for the member-owners of forests, through its forest
administrations of forest associations, especially:
1. The preparation of pla:is for forest exploitation and afforestation,
and supervision of their proper execution, 'or establishing their own forest
nurseries and organizing forest seed gathering.
P. The organization of forest work, marking areas for lumber exploita-
tion, and supervision of felling, production, measurement, and sorting of lum-
ber.
3. The registration of felled lumber.

5. Caring for forest soil productivity, preventing destructive forest
exploitation, carrying out necessary measures for improving forest management
and for protecting forests.
6. Furnishing expert opinions in matters of forest and lumber economy to
the member-owners of forests.
Forest managers of the federation may prepare forest management plans for
members of forest associations in their service area, which associations will
pay their expenses for travel and materials.
Through its agencies, the federation tries to improve the management of
forests to promote the economic welfare of its members. It is also in charge
of information and advisory activities.
The agencies of the federation are entrusted with several public tasks.
They perform special tasks for the National Land Fund. Forest protection is
carrizd out by the owners of forests themselves. To pay the expenses of the
expert forest service, the federation collects from the member-owners of for-
ests annual fees which are fixed according to regulations of the Ministry of

Agriculture, and which the federation manages. The federation does not engage
in any commerce or enterprise, either at its own expense or at the expense of
other persons. The federation is under the supervision of the Ministry of Ag-
riculture, the Ministry of Finance, and the Supreme Accounting Control Office.

acting chairman of the federation. The following sections have been estab-
