LARGE BEARINGS FOR ROLLING MILLS -- Moscow, Vechernyaya Moskva, 12 Aug 52

Kaganovich makes large size roller bearings for the rolling mills of the Za-
porozhstal' Metallurgical Combine.
BUILD ELECTRIC-SPARK EQUIPMENT -- Leningradskaya Pravda, 14 Aug 52
At the Leningrad Carburetor Plant imeni Kuybyshev, nozzle holes for diesel
engine fuel sprayers, which were formerly drilled, are now made by an electric
spark method. This method made the process cheaper and faster, and has saved
more than one million rubles in the last 12 months. Plant designers are now
working to make this electric spark unit fully automatic, and have completed
the blueprints of a new, highly productive unit.
All electric spark work at the plant is carried out in shop No 17, which
series-produces electric spark machine tools for making dies and press molds,
and for other tool-making operations. The plant ships these units to Moscow,
Kharkov, Tbilisi, and dozens of other cities.
The plant developed electric spark methods for making parts for the huge
walking excavators and made an electric spark machine tool for the Tsimlyan-
okays Hydroelectric Center.

At the Leningrad Carburetor Plant imeni Kuybyshev, substitution of the
electric spark method for mechanical drilling of holes 0.15 millimeters in di-
ameter in automobile parts has saved 1.5 million rubles, reduced rejects 250
times, and raised labor productivity more than Six times.

The plant has organized the mass production of machine tools for electric
spark grinding of hard alloy cutters and other cutting tools.
SPARE. PARTS SHORTAGE IN LITHUANIAN SSR -- Vil'nyus, Sovetskaya Litva, 5 Jun 52
Lithuanian SSR automobile managements continue to find it difficult to
find ASFO oil filters. The republic office of Glavneftesnab (Main Administra-
tion of Petroleum Supply) was charged with the production of these filters, but
somehow managed to shift the responsibility elsewhere.
Simple parts like glands, bushings, and pins are hard to find at the
Avtotraktorosbyt (Automobile and Tractor Sales) store. The Glavkhimsbyt (Main
Administration of Chemical Sales) store has no brake packing collars or fan
belts.
LACK OF PARTS HOLDS UP TRUCK REPAIR -- Kishinev, Sovetskaya Moldaviya, 17 Aug 52
Trucks sent to the Kishinev Automobile Repair Plcnt, Ministry of Automo-
bile Transport Moldavian. SSR, have stood at the plant from one to 3 years; and,
instead of being repaired, have been "cannibalized" for parts for other trucks.
Artem'yev, plant director, explains these delays by saying that there are no
spare parts, but this excuse is not always justified.
The ministry has made some attempts to clean up the dirt and gunk heaps
that abound in the plant, but it has done nothing to improve plant organiza-
tion and leadership.
PARTS PLANT BOOSTS OUTPUT -- Yerevan, Kommunist, 12 Aug 52
The Yerevan Avtodetal' Plant shipped 45,000 automobile spare parts to
the Volga-Don Canal alone. The plan for shipping parts for the first 6 months
of 1952 was completed one month ahead of schedule.
A new method of broaching pipes used in making GAZ-MM cluster gears elim-
inated rejects and rflaed labor productivity 3.5 times.
In the first 6 months of 1952, output per unit of equipment increased 5
percent compared to the corresponding period in 1951. Production costs were
lowered 17.6 percent, while the plan called for 14.2 percent. The gross pro-
duction plan for the first 6 months of 1952 was fulfilled 115.3 percent and
the commodity production plan, 113.4 percent. The July 1952 plan for the as-
signed products list and range of types was fulfilled 112 percent.

In 7 months of 1952, the Yerevan Avtodetal' Plant has shipped 10,032 auto-
mobile and tractor spare parts of 15 type designations to the Kuybyshev GES
project through the Kuybyshev office of Glavavtotraktorosbyt (Main Administra-
tion of Automobile and Tractor Sales).
INSTITUTE DEVELOPS AUTOMOBILE INSTRUMENT -- Moscow, Moskovskaya Pravda,
11 Jun 52
The Moscow Scientific Research Institute for Automobile Instruments works
in close cooperation with the Moscow Automobile Plant imeni Stalin, Moscow Auto-
mobile and Tractor Electrical Equipment Plants No 1 and 2, and the Moscow Small
Displacement Automobile Plant. In 1951, the institute carried out 69 scien-
tific research _-.ejects connected with plant problems.

One of the most important 1952 projects is the development of a set of
alternating current equipment for the ZIS-155 bus, which is being carried out
in cooperation with the Moscow Automobile Plant imeni Stalin (producer of the
ZIS-155 bus), the Moscow Automobile and Tractor Electrical Equipment Plant No
1, and the Kuybyshev KATEK Plant. Another project, a new process for coating
headlight reflectors, will save a great quantity of silver, brass, and other
costly metals.

IMPROVE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT -- Moscow, Vechernyaya Moskva, 3 Jul 52
The Moscow Automobile and Tractor Electrical Equipment Plant No 1 is de-
voting special effort to the problem of lengthening the life of automotive
electrical equipment.
In the near future, the plant will start producing long life generators
and starters for the Moskvich automobile and the diesel trucks made by the
Yaroslavl' Automobile Plant.
SHIPS GARAGE EQUIPMENT TO PROJECTS -_ Moscow, Izvestiya, 20 Aug 52
The Bezhetsk Garage Equipment Plant shipped garage tools to the Kuybyshev
GES, Stalingrad GES, and the South Ukrainian and North Crimean Canal projects
in the second quarter 1952. Now the plant is preparing to ship a consignment
of compressors, washing machines, grease guns, grinding machines, and sets of
wrenches to the Main Turkmen Canal Project.
PLEDGE GREATER OUTPUT -- Vil'nyus, Sovetskaya Litva, 5 Sep 52
In a letter to Stalin, workers of the Shyaulyay Bicycle Plant made the
following pledges;
To fulfill the 1952 plan early and produce 300 bicycles above the plan,
to raise labor productivity 1.5 percent above the plan, to reduce production
costs 0.5 percent beyond the elan, to accumulate 100,000 rubles above the plan,
and to speed up capital turnover by 5 days.
DEATH OF INSTPTUTE CHIEF -- Moscow, Izvesti" , 10 Sep 52
Boris Fedorovich Latyshev, chief of Giproavtotraktoroprom (State Planning
Institute for Machine Building Plants of the Automobile and Tractor Industry)
and a member of the VKP(b), died on 7 September 1952.
