Soviet engineers G. Paraubek and I. Fydsel ~orwegian traneliteratio~ have
developed s new tunneling device which obviates the extensive surface excavatio?e
usually required Por laying pipes and cables. It consists esaeatially of a cylin-
der affixed to the end of a'rod. while the cylinder Se held against the place
where tunneling is to begin, a puma exhausts the air Prom it, so that atmospheric
pressure forces it into the earth. As the cylinder starts its penetration, a
vibrator attachment begins to function, packing the tunnel walls; this prevents
collapse when the cylinder is withdrawn. The tunneler can advance 20 meters is
one run. At the start oP each run, a vertical shaft must be dug to make room for
the machine's supporting frame sad the operators.

can also be rigged as n road grader sad a crane.

Designers at the Sverdlovsk Uralmash Plant are developing designs for a aev
walking excavator of increased productivity and greater reach. The machine ie to
be equipped with a 25-cubic-meter bucket.

The Sverdlovsk Uralmaeh Plant has begun work oa a 14/75 walking excavator.
The bucket and turntable are already completed, and workers are now welding the
boom. When finished, the machine will go to the builders of the South Ukrainian
Canal.

The Kharkov Road-Machinery Plant has completed a new two-axle earth-hauling
trailer, the D-258, for the builders of the Kuybyshev GES. Designed to be toyed
by an 5-80 tractor, it has a 15-cubic-meter capacity and ie 9.5 meters long.
The Kharkov Road-Machinery Plant recently completed as early shipment of 19
bulldozers far the builders of the 6outh Ukrainian and Rorth Crimean canals.
FILL ORDERS EARLY -- Kishinev, Sovetskaya Moidaviye, 29 Aug 52
During the first half of 1952, the Osipenko Road-Machinery Plant shipped
about 200 scrapers and bulldozers to the builders of the Main Turkmen and South
Ukrainian canals and the builders of the Stalingrad and Kuybyshev LESS. All or=.
dare were filled ahead of schedule.
The Tbilisi Gruzsel'elektro Plant has established production of special slid-
ing scrapers for leveling out areas around irrigation canals. A large consignment
of the scrapers has been sent to M15 centers in the southern Caucasus and is the
Dagestanskaya ASSR. Other scrapers produced by the plant are 1n use in eevaral
rayons of the Georgian SSR.
