In the southern pert of the country, harvesting of oleaginous crops
such as peanuts, safflowers, soybeans, and sesame is continuing. Many
kolkhozes of Uzbekistan are obtaining up to 30 quintals of peanuts per hectare,

Maize has matured in Zakarpetslcaya, Odesskaya, and Dnepropetrovskayn

As a result of collectivization and consolidation of kolkhozes, the sown
area in kolkhozes expanded by more than 206,000 hectares in the last 2 years.
A further expansion of the sown area is necessary in order to create a stable

The progress of harvesting work in kolkhozes of Leningradskayn Oblast
raise:: serious fears concerning the ultimate outcome of the harvest. As of
25 September, the plan for reaping of gra.'.l; crops had been fulfilled only
64 percent, and only 60 percent of the reaped grain had been threshed. Thus
far, not one rayon has finished harvesting grain crops.
Harvesting of potatoes, vegetables, fodder root crops, and ensilage crops
is going badly; The plan for digging of potatoes had been fulfilled only 18
percent, that for harvesting of vegetables, only 31 percent,
As of 25 September, the plan for plowing of winter fallow had been fulfilled
only 11 percent in the ablest.- This work must not be delayed further; it is
necessary sharply to increase the plowing rate, so that the entire area to be
devoted to spring crops in 1953 will be winter followed; winter fallow is the
base for good harvests of grain crops, potatoes, vegetables, and other crops.(11)
During the last 5 years, kolkhozes of i':oskovskaya Oblast have considerably
inbreased the area sown to perennial gresses.(12)
