summary: This report gives information on prewar indus-
trial plants in Dairen taken from the Japanese document Shows
15-nen Matsu Kantoshu Koba Meibo (Industrial Directory of
Kwan#tung Lease Territory, As of End of 1940. It lists the
names, addresses, products, number of workers, and the date
when the plants began operation. Names of plants which were
owned by the Japanese are spelled according to Japanese
readings of the Chinese characters; plants which were owned
by the Chinese are written according to the Wade-Giles sys-
tem. Street addresses of the plants are given according to
Japanese readings.
The plants are divided according to the products they
manufacture, as follows:
1. Ordinary machinery And equipment
2. Precision machinery and equipment
3. Electrical machinery and equipment
4. Locomotives rolling stock, motor vehicles and other
vehicles
5. Railway equipment
6. Shipyards and ship repair shops
