CAMPS FOR POLITICAL PRISONERS -- Athens, Le Massager d'Athenes, 26 Mar 53
Many political prisoners~whoee trials had been postponed "sine die", have
been, sent to work at the mines of the concentration camps located at Bala-Mare,
Ocnele-Mari, and Petrosnni or at the hydroelectric dam protect at Bicaz.
A new forced labor camp was established recently near the city Deeti
[ne,t~. According to official Communist reports, It is intended for prisoners
of the Rumanian Army. The first group of 200 prisoners has already been sent
there. The prisoners are eubJected to hard labor and malty other aufferinge.

Three vast prisons have been built recently at Ramnicul-Valcea, at Targu-
Jiu in Oltenia, and at Ploesti.

Istanbul, 14 March -- Hakki Boetanoglu, age 57, told newsmen today that
he had spent 10 months at forced labor in Rumania after being Jailed on charges

was freed oa 5 March, said that the Rumanians accorded the same treatment to
two other Turkish captains, namely, Dursun Akbas of the 270-ton motorship
Cansavar, and Yusuf Geac, who captained another small ship. He said Akbas was
released after 6 months, while Geac was still serving out an 8-month aenteace.
Bostaaoglu said that at first he was imprisoned in a Bucharest fail sad
later he was put to work on the Black Sea-Danube Canal project, although a
doctor certified he was unfit for such hard labor. In all, he worked for 2~
months oa the canal. According to Bostanoglu, the canal will not be completed
for perhaps 10 years.
