This year, the Matyas Rakosi Competitive Examinations for students attend-
ing intermediary schools may be taken in the following subiec'.s: history, geo-
graphy, Russian, pedagogy, economic mathematics, bookkeeping, Hungarian litera-
ture, and mathemati.a.(1)
The examinations are given throughout the country. Special committees in
Budapest and in the megyek grade the papers to determine which students should
compete in the finals, which are given in Budapest and in the megye capitals.(2)
The finals are graded and judged by a committee consisting of members of
the scientific societies concerned and specialists from the Ministry of Public
Education.(1)
The winner in each subject receives a certificate and a cash prize of 1,000
forints. The first two runners-up receive a certificate and 500 forints each.
All other students who participated in the national competition and received
good grades are given books.(2)
