ADAPT TRUCISS TO COIISTRUCTIOiJ WORK -- Minsk, Sovetskaya Belorusaiya, 5 Mar 53
A group of designers at the Minsk Automobile Plant are adapting the MAZ-
205 dump truck to working conditions in the Main Turkmen Canal ^egion. All
control instruments on the truck are being made air tight and Seals are
being improved to keep out sand and dust.
The plant is working on a condenser to return escaping water vapor to
the radiator, for work on the desert, where suitable water is not available
Trucks are painted light colors for work on the desert, and seats are uphol-
stered in heat resistant materials. Ventilation will be provided for the
drivers' comfort.
The plant is increasing the output of the 25-ton MAZ-525 dump trucks.
These trucks are built for work with 4-6 cubic meter excavators, and are
four times as productive as a standard 6-ton bL1Z-205 dump truck. Fuel
Pconamy per ton-kilometer of earth hauled is 18-20 percent, as compared with
that of the smaller truck, and labor productivity of the truck and excavator
operators increases to 200-250 percent when the 25-ton dump truck is used.
Three-cubic-meter excavators are widely used at the construction pro-
Jects, and require 8-8.5 ton trucks for unloading. PLant designers are de-
veloping a new type of MAZ-205 dump truck of 8-8.5 ton capacity and a MAZ-
200 truck with a capacity of 9 tons.
The MAZ-525-D tractor truck for pulling n 15-cubic-meter scraper is
being tested at the site of the Volga-Ural Canal. The scraper bucket cuts
300 mi~limeters into the earth and removes up to 15 cubic meters of earth
at a time.

The plant has produced the first consigru;ent of hi?1'L-520 multi-wheel
trailers for extra-heavy freight. The trailer has 24 wheels, eight in each
row. It is designed for carrying heavy equipment that cannot be disassembled,
such as excavators. Designer Sirotkin is working on plans for the 40-ton
MAZ-5210 trailer with a body that tips to the sides. This trailer is designed
for quarry work in conjunction with large excavators.
The plant has filled first quarter 19j3 orders for hVw-205 dwnp trucks
