During the last 24 hours, an invasion of cold air from northwestern Siberia
into the European USSR took place. Last night temperatures dropped to 25 and
30 degrees below zero in the Middle Volga Region and the central region of the
European USSR.

This morning, mostly slightly cloudy weather xith extreme subzero temperatures
prevailed in the ~ropean USSR. Temperatures dropped on the Black Sea coast of the
Caucasus. Snowfalls were recorded in the Komi ASSR and the'Northern Caucasus. A
considerable rise in temperature wsa recorded in the western regions of the Euro-
pean USSR. Warmer weather spread to the east and was accompanied by snowfalls
and strong winds.

This morning, cloudy weather xith strong winds and local snowfalls and
snowstorms prevailed in most of the Ukraine, the Lower Volga Region, the central
chernozem zone and the western regions of the European USSR. Strong xinda with
precipitation in the form of rain and wet snow were recorded in the Crimea and
Rorthern Caucasus. Light snowfalls xere recorded in the Karelo-Finnish SSR.
Mostly slightly cloudy xeather with moderate to extreme subzero temperatures pre-
vailed in the rest of the European USSR.
Temperatures at 0900 this morning were 32 degrees belox zero in Syktyvkar,
27 belox in plkhangel'sk and Kirov, 26 below itt Vologda, 25 below in Chkalov and
Murmansk, 24 below is Saratov, 23 belax in Gor'kiy and Molotov, 21 below in Kuy-
byshev, 18 b~lox in Stalingrad, 17 below in Lvov, 15 below in Leningrad and
