Sovetskaya Kirgiziyyaa, THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION EXPERIMENTAL ECONOMY MEASURp3 RgAIOING FIREBRICK IN USSR The problem of the grey iron shop of the Agricultural Machine-Building Plant imeni Frunze is to reduce the cost of refractory firebrick used in repairing cupola furnaces. Since sand lacks essential properties necessary for packing cupola furnaces, a substitute is needed. It was decided to utilize waste refractory material for an experimental smelting. It was impossible to test the quality of the composition of the substituted waste refractory material because of lack of suitable equipment. In order to reduce further the expense of preparation, it was decided not to purify the material. After the experiment, the results of the smelting were determined immediately. It was found that the composition used, because of its fireproof quality, possessed the same properties as firebrick. It was further learned that the drying of the cupola furnace with rammed lining, a process usually requiring 20 to 24 hours, was not obligatory. Subsequent smeltings yielded similar results. More rational utilization of this substitute refractory material ,till result in saving the factory sev- eral tens of thousands of rubles. vnsen Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/09/14: CIA-RDP80-00809A000700120563-2
