CZECHOSLOVAK PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES
INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL COIGRESS -- Prague, Miada Fronta, 23 May 53
The Czechoslovak delegation to the International Medical Congress departed
for'Vienna on 23 May 1953. The delegation was headed by Prof Dr Josef Lukas,
president of the Gynecological Clinic in Prague. The delegates include Acade-
mician Ivan Malek, director of the Biological Institute of the Czechoslovak
Academy of Sciences; Prof Dr Jiri Divis, director of the II fecond. Surgeons
Clinic of the State Faculty Hospital; Dr Zdenek Stich, deputy for the Minister
of Health; Dr Josef Houstek, lecturer and director of the Detske Kliniky
(Children's Clinics) in Prague; and Prof Dr Teofil Niederlard, assistant rec-
tor of Slovak University in Bratislava.
The congress, which will discuss the broad aspects of living conditions,
will remain in session from 23 to 25 May 1953.
Originally the congress was to be held in Italy, but the Italian govern-
ment refused to grant permission for the gathering on the grounds that its
deliberations would be of a political nature.
HUNGARIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES -- Prague, Obrana Lidu, 23 May 53
Delegates of the CSAV (Ceskoslovenska Akademie Ved, Czechoslovak Academy
of Sciences) left Prague on 22 May for Budapest, where they will attend a
meeting of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences which will be held from 24 to
30 May 1953.
The Czechoslovak delegation includes the following scientists: Acade-
mician J. Bohm, representative of the president of the Czechoslovak Academy
of Sciences; F. Sorm, chief secretary of the CSAV and state prize winner;
Prof Dr V. Vanecek, corresponding member of the CSAV; and Prof Dr F. Hora,
vice-president of the Scientific Council of the Ministry of Health.

Zdenek Nejedly, president of the CSAV, and Frigyes Lederer, second secre-
tary of the Hungarian Embassy in Prague, accompanied the delegation to the
station.
IV WORLD FESTIVAL OF YOUTH -- Prague, Obrana Lidu, 24 May 53
Czechoslovakia plans to send a 1,000 member delegation to the IV World
Festival of Youth in Bucharest which will be held from 2 to 16 August 1953.
Delegates will be selected from the beet workers in plants and villages, the
beat young artiste, choral groups and cultural ensembles, young scientists,
engineers, the beat functionaries in the Czechoslovak Youth Union, and the
most outstanding athletes.
The Czechoslovak Youth is preparing to fulfill its pledge of a 5-million-
crown contribution to the International Solidarity Fund. As of 23 May 1953,
the Czechoslovak Youth has fulfilled this goal by subscribing 5,049,172 crowns.
Prague Kral alone raised 1,150,739 crowns.
