A grinding-polishing machine has been approved for series production. It x111 process parts by means of a flexible abrasive belt. In 1953, the plant xill produce more than 100 machine tools for the manu- facture of knives and forks. At present, the plant ie mastering the production .of an electrical erosion machine for processing complex-shaped parts. CLAIMS AT VPPEBSK MACHINE-POOL PLANTS -- Minsk, Sovetskaya Belorussiya, 16 May 53 In 1952, the Vitebsk Machine Taol Puilding Plant imeni Komintern put out good-quality products, having produced thousands of machine tools and having received only three complaints. In no case involving a clairu was the plant at fault. The Vitebsk Machine Tool Building Plant imeni Kirov, on the other hand, has not done so well. The number of complaints increased from 31 in 1951 to 42 in 1952. Kaleahin is its director; and Sviridenko, its chief engineer. AATICORROSIVE PLATING ELIMIRATES NEID FOR NONFERROUS METALS -- Moscow, Vestnik Mashinostroyeniya, May >3 The Orel Plant of Glavpishchemssh (Main Administration of Food Machinery Bui].d1ng, Ministry of Light and Food Industry USSR) is perfecting a technology for producing an anticorrosive pia+.ing with BF-2 sizing and Bakelite lacquer for ferrous metals. This will make it possible for the plant to eliminate almost completely the need for nonferrous metals in the manufacture of s large number of machines and apparatue. EMPHASIZE POOR QUALITY OF PRODUCTS -- Moscow, Stanki 1 Instrument, Sep 52 During the postwar yearn, enterprises of t'aE Ministry of Machine Tool Building have designed and perfected a large quantity of new modern machine tools, presses and forging machines, foundry machinery, and tools. Nearly nil designs of universal machine tools nov being produ~::d by the plants have been replaced by new designs. Although a great deal of progress has been made in this field; the quality of. products put out must be improved. Some plants have riot fulfilled their obligations in decreaFing losses due to reJects. In the ministry as a whole, these losses exceeded one percent in 1951. In 4 months of '1952, they even increased at certain enterprises. Among these plants are the Minsk, Vinnitsa, Voroshilovgrad, and Chkalov F"?.nts. At the Tbilisi Tsentto~it Plant, losses due to rejects reach=d 613,000 rubles in 4 months of 1952? Such a condition points to the poor xork on the part of the plant's OTK (Office of Technical Coc~trol}. Evidence of the poor quality of products pat out by the plants is the significant number of complaints received from consumers. For example, the Moseaw Rrasnyy Froletariy Plant has received complaint on Model 1620, and the Kuybyshev Srednevolzhekiy Plant on Model 161G. PGIR1'' OUT 7.CN QUALIFICATIGB3 OF 0790 3TAFF3 -- Moecw, Za Ekoaomiyu Materialov, Bov $2 As is knwn, a plant's OTK is responsible for the output of good quality products. Hwever, at certain enterprises, these divisions are staffed xith poorly qurlltied workers, xhich makes it impossible to carry out proper control over each operation and over the acceptance of finished products. The GTK at the Moecw Grinding Machine Plant is made up of 69 vorkera, only three of wham have a higher education. The other 66 have no more than secondary education or in some cases incomplete secondary education. At the GTK of the Moecw Machlne Tool Building Plant imeni Ordzhonikidze, of 162 men, only three have received higher education and only 15 have completed secondary education. Although it ie not mandatory that all workers of the OTK complete higher or secondary technical education, the task of increasing the qualifications of these workers must be given serious attention. -- P.
