NEW BUILDING MATERIAL DEVELOPED IN UKRAINE; GENERAL BUILDING MATERIALS AVAILABLE TO PC3LIC IN MOSCOW NEW MATERIAL GOOD HEAT AND SOUND INSUTATOR -- Tbilisi, Zarya Vostoka, 7 Jan 53 Scientific associates of he Ukrainian. SSR have developed a new building material called "mikroporit." The new material is light in weight but is a good insulator against heat and sound. It is made in autoclaves from sandy loam or clay mixed with sand and limestone. The water is removed from the mixture by boiling in the autoclaves and by drying. The new material is used primarily for partitions and as a covering material, as well as a wall stone where conditions permit it to be covered on the outside by durable materials. The sandy loam used in the manufacture of the material is found on the surface in many areas of the Georgian SSR. The installation of uncomplicated and Inexpensive additional equipment in Ukrainian silicate brick plants would make mass production of the new building material quite possible. STARTS PRODUCING INSULATING MATERIAL -- Petrozavodsk, Leninskoye Znamya, 15 May 53 The Kramatorak Mineral Wool Plant has started manufacturing mineral felt which will be used to insulate buildings. ESTONIAN PLANT PRODUCES CONCRETE MIXING ADDITIVE FROM CLAY --Tallin, Sovetskaya Estoniya, 10 Apr 53 The ceramic plant of the Ministiry of Construction Materials Industry Estonian SSR has started manufacturing a new building material called "keramzit" gravel. It is a gray-colored p.r ous material which is so light in weight that it does not thin out and is used mainly as an additive in the mixing of concrete. The material is obtained from local Estonian fusible clay. During the first 5 months, it cut production costs 233,000 rubles. During the same period, it conserved 125 tons of coal and mo-, than 7,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity. KIEV PLANT ?RODUCES SLATE ABOVE QUOTA -- Moscow, Promyshlennost' Stroitel'nykh Materialov, 9 Jul 52 During the first 6 months of 1952, the Kiev Slate Plant produced almost 3 million slate slabs above quota. It has been gperating efficiently and has been fulfilling its monthly and quarterly quotas since 1950. BUILDING MATERIALS SOLD IN MOSCOW STORES -- Moscow, Promyshlennoat' Stroitel'nykh Materialov, 9 Jul 52 There are 'more than 40 stores and outlets in Muscow where the consumer can purchase building materials. Some of the stores provide counseling services. The consumer can now p.schase brick, cement, glass, alabaster, slate, lime, and plasterboard. TWO REINFORCED CONCRETE PLANTS TO START OPERATIONS IN MOSCOW AREA -- Moscow, Vechernyaya Moskva, 31 Mar 53 Two large automatized construction materials plants, the Moscov and ? Lyubertsy plants, will soon start operations. Their annual capacity will be 240,000 cubic meters of sectional reinforced concrete structures and products. KIEV PLANT SHIPS 66 CARLOADS OF PLASTERBOARD IN FIRST QUARTER -- Kiev, Pravda Ukrainy, 15 Apr 53 In the first quarter 1953, the Kiev Gypsum Products Plant shipped 50 carloads of plasterboard to the Kuybyshev GES construction project and 16 carloads to Stalingrad. CARBONIZED BLOC{ MANUFACTURING PLANT LACS IN 1952 -- Moscow, Promyshlennost' Stroitel'nykh Materialov, 2 Jul 52 The Podol'sk Lime Plant, which started manufacturing carbonized blocks in 1951, has not been operating efficiently in 1952. It fulfilled its quota for the first 6 months of 1952 by only 52 percent. Equipment in the plant's carbonized block shop is idle for considerable periods. One of the block forming presses works at less than 50 percent of its capacity. Instead of producingfrem 4,500 to 5,000 blocks per shift, its output if from 1,500 to 1,700 blocks, mainly because of the lack of a sufficient supply of cinders and sand. Of the eight available gas chambers, only six have been working for some time because of the shortage of 20 carts. Because the conveyer system is 20 meters short, manual labor must be employed to deliver the lime and gypsum mixture to the block shop. Despite this, the Moscow Oblast Administration of Construction Materials Industry, to which the plant is subordinate, has taken no steps to e'd the plant in overcoming its difficulties. - END - - 2 - CONFIDENTIAL Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/02/08: CIA-RDP80-00809A000700130095-1
