THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION ACTIVE AND PASSIVE RESISTANCE IN SATELLITES, 12 JULY - 16 AUGUST 195 RESISTANCE ACTIVITIES IN BULGARIA -- Athens, Stratiotika Nea, 16 Aug 53 According to information from reliable sources, 2,200 tobacco workers recently participated in demonstrations in Plovdiv and 1,500 tobacco workers in demonstrations held at Khaskovo. A soap factory was also set on fire at Kostin brod and a section of an Eliseyna mine burned. Meanwhile, many civilians and military personnel escape daily across the frontier. On 25 July, noncommissioned officer Stanko Gorev, who was in a special confidential unit in Sofia, escaped to Yugoslavia. PROCLAMATIONS DROPPED IN BUDAPEST STREETS -- Athens, Stratiotika Nea, 12 Jul 53 According to reliable reports, on 8 and 9 July 1953 thousands of procla- mations were dropped in the streets of Budapest by secret anti-Communist organizations which told the people that "a new intense struggle is starting and only by such struggles and sacrifices can freedom be earned." ANTI-COMMUNIST DEMONSTRATIONS IN RUMANIA -- Athens, Le Messager d'Athenes, 12 Aug 53 It has been reported that various anti-Communist demonstrations have taken place recently in Rumania. Also, posters with the following message were found on the walls of the Metallurgical Institute of Bucharest: "Citizens, be patient; our deliverance will soon come!" Many arrests were made among the personnel at the institute. This measure was taken as a result of numerous recent sabotage activities. SECRET TRANSMITTER DISCOVERED IN RUMANIA -- Athens, Le Messager d'Athenes, 11 Aug 53 Rumanian authorities have discovered a secret radio transmitter in the vicinity of Sibiu.
