TABLE SBOWING USSR ELECTAZC POWER DEVELOPMENT BY ECONOMIC REGIONS
This report consists of a table gluing available figures from Soviet sources
on the development of electric power, by oblasts and republics of the USSR, for
the years 1935, 1937, 1940, and 1950. These years were chosen because the most
data was available on them from Soviet publications; information for other years
was too infrequent to warrant inclusion.
The figures in the table are for installed electric power capacity, in
thousands of kilowatts, and output, in millions of kilowatt-hours.
The union republics and RSFSR oblasts, autonomous republics, and krays are
arranged according to the 12 economic regions; the figures under each region
have been totaled for 1935 and 1937 only, since information for 1940 and 1950
xas incomplete.
The large discrepancy between the figure for the electric power capacity of
the entire USSR given at the top of Column 3 of the table (8116) and that at the
bottom of the same column (9407) may be explained by the fact that the majority
of the component figures given in the column are "planned" figures.
A11 documented figures are either taken as cited from the sources, in which
case only the source was cited, or calculated on the basis of information contained
in the sources. In the Latter case the figures used as a basis for calculations
are quoted in notes accompanying the sources.
Underlined totals for the economic regions and the USSR as a whole were ar-
rived at by simple addition.
The abbrevintion "Abt" (about) is used before figu,?es (1) when a figure is
calculated on the basis of plan figures whose accomplishment is not known; or (2)
when no specific information was given except that a plan was fu1f111ed. The term
"Over" is used to indicate that a plan figure was exceeded. The abbreviation "P1"
indicates that the figure cited is only a plan figure.
Pnrcntheses around certain oblasts and krays designate territorial divisions
which are no longer in existence but for w},ich 1935 and/or 1937 Figures were given.
Letters in parentheses refer to appended sources.
