post of Chief Scientific Secretary of the presidium following a criticism
printed in Izvestlya of 20 January 1953 under the heading "Certain Illustra-
tions of Scie~rtific Declarations." Shvets remained, however, as Head of an

As of 1 May 1953, the Division of History of Engineering was removed from
the supervision of the institute and placed under the Bureau of the Depart-

Jaboratory of Problems of IIigh-Sneed Machines and Dlechanisms
This is apparently an independent establishment within the frameworl; of
the Department of Technical Sciences, but no definite proof of this has been
found,(4)
Laboratory of Special Alloys
This laboratory was made an independent organization under the Deunrtment
of Technical Sciences in 1952 in order to improve the organization of research
work.(4) No further reference to the laboratory has been seen.

Member of the academy, but Lazarenko remains in the institute as Head of the
