The Rumanian Central Directorate of Statistics reported in a communSque
issued 19 July 1953 that the number of tractors and agricultural machines had
increased as follows in the first half of 1953 1,325 tractors, 800 tractor
plows, 770 sowers, 610 reaper-binders, 457 threshers, and 200 self-propelled
combines.
The number of agricultural specialists increased as follows in the same
period: 1,250 graduates of higher institutions and 4,000 graduates of inter-
mediate institutions. '
FIRST Ff.OATLHG IRRIGATION PCR4P STARTS OPERATION -- Buciu~rest, Mucca, 1 Jul 53
The Manastirea State Farm, Bucharest Regiune~ started operation of the
first floating irrigation pump with a distribution capacity of 900-1,200
liters of water. The irrigation station, mounted on a floating base on the
Danube, services 2 to 3 units and is protected against floods and corrosion.
Three mechanics and a sailor man the installation. The station irrigates
360 hectares of rice fields and 400 hectares of vegetable gardens at the
Manastirea State Farm.
A second floating irrigation pump is under, construction. This pump will
be driven by electric motors.

SEGARCEA RAI09 MTS EXCEED QUOTAS -- Bucharest, Munca, 23 Jul 53
The Segarcea Raion MTS, Craiova Regiune, using two threshers behind each
K D 3g tractor, threshed 30,000 kilograms of wheat in 10 hours. Some MTS
exceeded their daily norms by 10 percent. Individual peasants of Podari
Commune, with the aid of the Carcea MI5, threshed wheat 24 hours s day. They
threshed 25,000-30,000 kilograms of wheat i:i one 10-hour period and exceeded
their daily norms by 70 - 80 percent.
STATE FARM APPLIED SOVIET MEPHOll OF HARVESTING -- Bucharest, Munca, 10 Jul 53
The Urleasca State Farm applied the Sovitshevski method of harvesting
with combines, for the first time in Rumania. The combine is used at maximum
capacity by this method. Combine operators were able to harvest 27,000-30,000
kilegrams oP wheat from 9-10 hectares in 10 hours. The usual harvest of
wheat is 14,000-16,000 kilograms from 7 hectares in 10 hours.
THRESHING PLATFORMS ELECTRIFIED -- Bucharest, Munca,l2 Jul 53
Fifteen threshing platforms have been electrified in Galati Regiune,
in Scortari.-Noi, Ramnicelul, Romanu, Sendreni, Desirati end other communes.
MODEL TARESHING Pi.ATFURbf IN HUNEDOARA REGIUNE -- Bucharest, Munca. 2 Jul 53
Peasants of Simeria Commune, Deva Raion, have set up an electrified model
threshing platform with a first-aid station and fire-extinguishing equi?~ent.
In addition, they put up posters to encourage hard workers and to ridicule
kulaks.
PLOESTI REGIUNE WELL PREPARED FOR HARVEST -- Bucharest, Romania Libera, 1 Jul 53
The Ploesti Regiune People's Council supervised preparations for the
harvest. The Regiune set up 745 threshing platforms with 715 threshers, in-
cluding 41 electrified, and eight electrica~ly illuminated platforms. Two
watch posts were set up for every ;00-800 hectares of grain. By 5 June 1953,
all combines, reaper-binders, tractors, and disks were fully repaired and the
regiune machinery repair plan was 92.5 Percent completed.
