CONSTRUCTION OF 100 NEW BUILDINGS FOR POLISH COLLEGES -- Warsaw,
Folks-Sztyme, 29 Aug 53
Approximately 100 modern technical college buildings, comprising a
total volume of more than 1.5 million cubic meters, are at present under
construction in Poland under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher
Education.
In 1953, about 600 :ubic meters of space for college buildings will be
completed. The following buildings have been completed to date: A hydrological
institute building for the Gdansk Polytechnic; a veterinary building for the

School of Rural Husbandry; and one building for each of the colleges in Krakow,
Wroclaw, Warsaw, Czestochowa, and Lublin.
Construction on the following college buildings is almost complete:
Seven buildings in Warsaw, Olsztyn, Poznan, Czestochowa, Lublin, and Gdansk;
the chemical institute building of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow; and
one building for the Main School of Planning and Statistics i.n Warsaw.
In addition, the construction program of new technical college buildings
in Poland includes: three buildings, comprising a total volume of approximately
150,000 cubic meters, for the Wroclaw Polytechnic, including buildings for the
electrical engineering school and the electric power institute; a technological
pavillion for 70) students and a thermodynamic technological institute building
for the Warsaw Polytechnic; buildings for the schools of mining, construction
engineering, and chemistry of the Slask Polytechnic of Gliwice; buildings for
the Mining and Metallurgical Academy of Krakow; a compound for the School of
Engineering in Poznan; an athletic center with a stadium and gymnasium in
Poznan; and the expansion of the Kz-tmierz, Potocki, and Czetwertynski
buildings of Warsaw Unve:sit;;.

Eight new elementary schools will open in Warsaw in September and
October 1953.
The following elementary schools will open in September! Ulica Smie.la,
Ulica Dzielna, Grochow 2 residential section, Ulica Kochanowekiego, UJ.Lica
Nei-Velt approximation from Yiddish, possibly Newelska], Ulica Wilencka, and
Ulica Grochow. The elementary school :)n Ulica Nowolipie will open in October.
ENROLLMENT IN POLISH SCHOOLS -- Warsaw, Folks-Sztyme, 12 Sep
There are at present 3,350,000 students enrolled in the schools of Poland.
