~ummary: Early rice Ss on the market in the provinces of Hu-
nan, Hupeh, Honun, Kiangai, Chekiang, Kwantung, and Szechwan. The
amount sold daily in ouch hsien varies from 15C,000 cattier to over
3 million cattier.
During this time the purchase of rice accounts for 80-90 per-
cent of all daily market transactions. In Chekiang Province the
cooperatives buy 75 percent of all rice that is sold.
The price established by the government is effective ir. all pur-
chasing stations. In Chekiang Province this was reported to be 6
percent above last year's price. In Chekiang 1,700 grain-purchasing
atations were established.
The farmers sold 60-70 percent of their early rice, according
to statistics for 11 hsiang ~n Hunan Province.]

angsi the early rice is on the market. Everywhere the state commercial agen-
cies and the cooperatives are exceedingly busy buying grain. In the rich
plains bordering Tung-t'inr3 Hu, from 1,500,000 to 2,400,000 cattier of new rice
arc brought to market daily in each hsien. In Plan Hsien, which produces the
cost rice, ~,30C,000 cattier of .-_-c came cn t?:e market on 27 July. In the
plains bordering P'o-yang Hu and along both banks of the Y.an Chiang, and ir. the
Chiang-Han plain between the Yangtze and the Han rivers, several hundred thou-
san3catties of rice ire now brought to market from each hsien daily.

nies and the cooperatives accounted for about 90 percent of the rice market
transactions. During the lust 10 days of July, in such places as Chin-hua,
Ian-ch'i, and Chu-chi hsiens the ac:ount sold in each hsier. was from 150,000 to
^00,~~00 catties each day. The highest figure wss that in Yu-yco Hslen where
