OF :ABLY RICE IN CHZJL'1 ~ummary: Early rice Ss on the market in the provinces of Hu- nan, Hupeh, Honun, Kiangai, Chekiang, Kwantung, and Szechwan. The amount sold daily in ouch hsien varies from 15C,000 cattier to over 3 million cattier. During this time the purchase of rice accounts for 80-90 per- cent of all daily market transactions. In Chekiang Province the cooperatives buy 75 percent of all rice that is sold. The price established by the government is effective ir. all pur- chasing stations. In Chekiang Province this was reported to be 6 percent above last year's price. In Chekiang 1,700 grain-purchasing atations were established. Everywhere the state commercial agen- cies and the cooperatives are exceedingly busy buying grain. In the rich plains bordering Tung-t'inr3 Hu, from 1,500,000 to 2,400,000 cattier of new rice arc brought to market daily in each hsien.
