In the first ~': months of 1953, i:nder fire 1y53 reduced wholesale prices,
enterprises of the iinistry of I;achine Duildin~ USSR showed a profit of 3.8
percent, as com~ared with 1.8 percent i.n 1952. ?.s a result, 1953 F~ymerts
into the ~tate~ budget by the ministry i:;crensed 1.9 times as compared with
1952. In the first 6 mot:ths of 1953, the ministry fuli'i11ed its gross pro-
duction plan. However, in the firs. ~uart.er 1?53, production costs were re-
duced only 5.7 percent instend of a plan figure o:' 7.7 rercent. In June, pro-
duction costs were reduced 10 percent, as against e second quarter plan of o.7
percent.
A number of ministry enterprises :oiled to fulfill both their production
plans and their plans for reducing production costs, including such plants as
the Novosibirsk Tya:.hstankogidropress P1nnt, the Delinslay Agricultural tda-
chine Duilding Plant, and others. The ministry still has n number of enter-
prises that ire operating at a: loss.
Overexpenditure of wade funds and cc_`..eri~ls still takes plncc, and
losses due to rejects care still lrigh, sorneticres a~,ounting to 1.8 percent of
the cost of gross production.
Directives oi' the 19th Party Congress celled for an increase in the pro-
duction rate oi' machine building and metalworking products of almost 200 per-
cent during the Fifth Five-Year Plan.
