Northeast China completed tyro-thirds of its 1953 basic construction by the
end of September 1953. 2dajor projects completed include: construction of a
seamless tubing plant and a heavy rolling mill at An-shan; repairs of No 7 blast
furnace at An-shan; installation of two large k: '^oelectric generators at the
Hai-chou Conl bline; construction of buildings at the Ito 1 Automobile Plant; con-
struction of an electrical machinery plant and a tool manufacturing plant in
Harbin; construction of n heavy machinery plant, an electric wire plant, and a
mining machinery plant in tfukdcn; and repairs to the IJo 8 Cement Plant in
Mukden.

Chungking's 42 large-scale factories and mines have increased their
original targets in the increese-production, practice-economy movement by
23 percent. The follo:ring plants are taking part in the movement: IIo 101 Iron

39 are on schedule or ahead of schedule.
Three fourths of the main basic construction projects in Central-South
China are expected to be on schedule at the end of the year. Three key projects
in the Central-South Administrative Area are: state-operated Cheng-chou No 1
Cotton Textile Factory, the iCwani;tun? Tzu-ni Sugar Refinery, and the Hunan Hsia-
she-ssu Power Plant.

The construction of the state-operated large-scale Rarbin Electric Machinery
Plant, the first of its kind, was completed on 16 October 1953? Among the ma-
chines which this plant will produce are 10,000 and 16,000 kilowatt hydroturbine
generators. Production is scheduled to begin in August or September of 1)54.

The First Ministry of ldnchine Industry is pl~:nning to rep::ir ten large cnn-
chinery manufacturing plants during 1y53. One oi' the ten plants to be rep::ired

successfully manufactured its first 7~0-kilogram pneumatic hammer, weiRhi.nr
about 30 tons with n base of about 5, 00 squire millimeters. This hammer,
capable of for;;ln; a round piece of material of a 300-millimeter diameter or a
square piece of material of a 270-millimeter di :meter is about 5,800 millimr.tcrs
high.

Ta-lung, T'ai-li, Rsin-ch'ang, Chin-ch'ang, Chung-hua, and Liang-kung
machinery and steel factories in Shanghai, previously engaged in the manufacture
of machinery Yor textile and paper'mills, were given contracts to manufacture
lathes, .drills, and shaping machines.

The Tsai-chia-kang Mining Iachinery hfannfactitring Plant l:as completed the
manufacturing of two experimental pieces of mirln~ nr~chinery, a slow-speed
winch and a 200-horsepower blower used for ventilation. The sloe-speed winch
has already.b~en tested at the Tsai-chia-king Coal Mine in the Huai-non area
with excellent results.

half of 1953? During 1)53, the plant decrecsed the time required for manufactur-
ing u boring machine from 37g hours to 241 hours ai:d for the large axle of a

The Northwest exceeded its factory and mining pln~.s during the first
9 months of 1953, Particularly witi~ regard to state-operated coal, electricity,
petroleum, and textile production.
The L1-hsin iRedicnl and Chemical Equipment ractory in Tientsin apologized
for the manufacture of defective products.
'Phe Shanghai Equipment Plant Igo 2 has succes;:fuliy completed the manufactur-
ing of an experimental X-~?ay machine. It is planning to manufacture a large num-
ber of them in 1953? The plant is also planning to complete the construction of
additional buildings before 1956 to increase production.
