Under the old system separate inspections at both the processing factory and at the pier warehouse were required. Now, after receipt of the export request forms, the Customs and the Inspection Bureau send a joint in- spection team to the processing factory to complete the examination in one operation. The Tientsin Livestock Products Company recently undertook to export a ton and a half of commodities. Under the new system the company was able to save 18,200 yuan in handling charges. By transporting the commodities directly from the factory to the ship, the company was able to save a 10-day warehouse storage fee of 18,150 yaian. A shortage of pier warehouse storage facilities now exists at Tientsin harbor as a result of the large accumulation of commodities await- ing export. The new procedure will help solve this problem.
