SHIPS MAKE FINAL TRIPS IN MOSCOW AREA -- Moscow, Moskovskaya Pravda, 28 Oct 53
The M/V Khlebnikovo has been operating as a floating store throughout the
area served by the Moscow-Volga Steamship Line. During the 1953 navigation
season, river workers bought almost one million rubles' worth of goods from the
ship.
On 26 October, the ship began its last trip of the year, carrying on board
almost a quarter of a million rubles in merchandise.

The passenger station at Moscow's North River Port is deserted. Traffic
on all transit passenger lines has ceased, and the Moscow-Rostov and Moscow-
Astrakhan' lines have halted operations for the year. Tb,n S/S P. V. Gogol was
the last ship of the year to arrive from Molotov.
On all 56 lines of the Moscow-Volga Steamship Line, over 8 million passen-
gers were carried during 1953, an increase of 600,000 over 1952.
Local lines will continue to operate in many places on the Moscow River,
the Volga River. the Moscow Canal, and the Rybinsk Reservoir until complete
icing has occurred.

schedule, and the barge Bu

ahead of schedule. The M/V 30 let VLKSM with timber was unloaded 6 hours ahead
of schedule and was' immediately reloaded with cotton.
Nov long ago, the S/S Amu-Darya with grain from Makhach-Kala and the M/V
Azizbekov with industrial equipment were processed in 72 hours.

During.October, ships of the Neman Steamship Line transported more than
1,100 tons of vegetables, 3,000 tons of fish, and 4,000 tons of mineral fertil-
izer and construction materials.

Kama (Captain Bunza), and Barge No 205 have ell taken part in this shipment
of consumer goods;

The Moscow-Leningrad express freight line has been operating successfully
for.6 years. At'present, the 12 vessels operating on the line sail along six
rivers, three lakes, four canalz, and the Rybinsk Reservoir -- a total distance
of 1,500 kilometers.

shoes, industrial.machinery, and oth.:r freight.
Leningradska,-a Pravda, 29 Oct 53
The S/S Ladoga has been dispatched along the Neva River and Ladoga Canal
System from Smol'yy River Station carrying holiday merchandise for stores in
Leningradskaya Oblast. The cargo included a large assortment of confectionery
products, canned goods, and all types of wine.
Other ships are also delivering large quantities of consumer goods in
Leningradskaya Oblast. Clothes, shoes, knitted fabric, perfume, and food prod-
ucts (candy; sausage, cheese, herring, and liqueurs) were delivered to Voznesen'ye,
Sviritsa, Podporozh'ye, Novaya Ladoga, Kronshtadt, and other cities and villages.
The M/V Sovet, S/S Uritskiy, S/S Volodarskiy, S/S Ladoga, and other ships
have all been engaged in the transport of holiday merchandise.
Leningradskaya Pravda, 27 Oct 53
The Northwestern Steamship Line has completed its 1953 shipping plan. Dur-
ing the 1933 navigation season, several hundred thousand tons more freight were
carried than in 1952. There was a considerable increase in shipments of con-
sumer goods) particularly to the Karelo-Finnish SSR, Leningradskaya Oblast, and
Novgorodskaya Oblast. The shipment of vegetables from the Volga River to
Leningrad also increased.
The S/S Volkhovstroy has recently returned to Vladivostok from a voyage to
Shanghai.
NORTHERN MARITIME SHIPPING -- Moscow, Pravda, 27 Oct 53
The Dmitriy Furmanov is operating on the Murmansk-Umba and Murmansk-Keep'
lines.. The ship has delivered 6,350 tons of timber to Murmansk above the 1953
plan.
The sea ports at Arkhangel'sk, Onega, and Mezen' have all completed their
yearly plans.
NEW VESSELS LAUNCHED AND UNDER CONSTRUCTION -- Moscow, Vechernyaya Moskva,
27 Oct 53
The new passenger vessel M/V Zarya sailed today from the piers of the
Moscow Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Yard. The ship will sail to Rostov-ha-Donn.
The M/V Zarya is the third passenger vessel of her type built at the yards
in Moscow this year. The M/V Rassvet and the M/V Voskhod were launched earlier
and saw service on the Volga-Don Steamship Line during the 1953 navigation
season.
Tne Zarya is powered by?hro7 300-horsepower engines and has -accommodations
for 257,nassengers.

The passenger ship S/s Radishchev has sailed from Kiev for Kherson on her
maiden voyage.
The ship was built at the Leninskaya Kuznitsa Shipyard in Kiev.

The Kracnoyarsl: Shipbuilding yard is currently producing cutters for navi a-
tion on small rivers. These cutters are of the new jet design and therefore have
no screw or rudder-projecting from the bottom.
Three of these cutters have been ]inunc::cd recently, and tlrce more are due
at the end of the month.
