Maximum wind velocity is about.40 meters per second, and 220 kilo- meters from the storm center, wind velocity has reached 14 meters per second. At present, the typhoon center is moving north at a speed of 18 kilometers per hour and is gradually shifting direction to north northeast." Peiping, Kuang-ming Jih-pao, 4 Jul 53 The Central Weather Station issued an urgent typhoon warning at 1800 hours on 3 July. "At 1400 hours on 3 July, the typhoon center is out at sea 280 kilo- meters east southeast of Heng-ch'un on Taiwan. The maximum wind velocity has reached 70 meters per second (Class 18 of the Beaufort scale), and 320 kilometers from the center, the wind velocity had reached 25 meters per second (Beaufort.. Class 10). At present, the typhoon is travelling northwest and is gradually turn- ing north northwest at a speed of 18 kilometers per hour. It is predicted that the typhoon will strike south of Wen-chou-wan in Chekiang Province within 12 hours."
