INDUSTRIAL EXPANSION AND NEW PRODUCTION IN THE SATELLITES
GROWTH OF INDUSTRY IN RUMANIA -- Paris, La Machine Moderne, Aug 53
Rumania is rapidly becoming industrialized, judging by the products
presented at the recent Bucharest exposition, where emphasis was placed on
tractors and machine tools. A vast line of slide lathes, vertical lathes,
planers, milling machines, and presses were shown. At present, there are
more than seven large machine-tool plants in Rumania, and many others will
be constructed between now and 1955. The principal production comprises
medium and small machine tools, as well as special fast lathes. The total
production will attain about 600 units in 1955.
PLANS TO EXPAND M=G IN ALBANIA -- Duesseldorf, Chemische Industrie, No 10,
Oct 53
Albania plans to step up production in natural resources. By 1955,
120,000 tons of chrome ore, 200,000 tons of copper, and 250,000 tons of
bituminous coal are to be produced annually. The exploitation of iron and
nickel ores, bauxite, and pyrites is also scheduled to start by that time.
HUNGARIAN MANUFACTURE OF TUNNELING SHIELDS -- Paris, L'Equipement Mecanique,
Oct 53
Hungary is manufacturing tunneling shields developed by Hungarian
engineers. Excellent results were obtained at 14 excavation sites on the
Budapest subway. The shields are also exported to Poland for construction
of the Warsaw subway. In 1949) tunneling shields from Germany were used in
constructing the Budapest subway, but were too heavy for the soil; later on,
USSR shields were used successfully.
