SINKIANG AUTOMOBILE FACTORY BEGINS OPERATION -- Sian, Chun-chung Jih-pao,

Sian, 11 July (Hsin-hua She) -- The modern state-operated Shish-yueh
Automobile Repair and Assembly Factory has begun operations. Construction of
this factory started in June 1950; its completion is important for Sinkiang
since motor transport is the main means of communication in the province.
The factory contains parts..manufacturing, assembly, repair, body, paint,
and receiving shops, all equipped with the latest equipment manufactured in
the Soviet Union. Soviet technicians gave invaluable assistance in the con-
struction of this factory.
CHINA'S FIRST MODERN AUTOMOBILE PLANT BEGUN -- Sian, Chun-chung Jih-pao,

Mukden, 18 July (Hsin-hua She) -- Construction of China's first modern
automobile-manufacturing plant [in Mukden?] started on 15 July 1953. This
large-scale, modern, mechanized plant is being constructed with Soviet aid;
when completed, it will be completely equipped with up-to?date Soviet equipment.
. Construction plans for 1953 include work on part of the main plant, a
temporary engineering office, billets, warehouses, and mess halls. These
buildings will occupy 210,000 square meters. The foundation and part of the
main plant probably will be completed by the end of 1953.
