ROTATION AND ECONOMY MEASURES OF CHINESE ARMED FORCES
VOLUNTEER ARMY COMPLETES SEPTEMBER ROTATION -- Peiping, Jen-min Jih-pao,
3 Oct 53
Between 15 and 30 September, a total of 5,336 military personnel of the
Chinese People's Volunteer Army in Korea returned to China through Sinuiju.
Under the provisions of the armistice agreement, an equal number of men came
from China to replace those sent home. The exchange took place under the su-
pervision of aneutral inspection team.
ECONOMY AND REDUCTION ( EXPENSES -- Peiping, Jen-min Jih-pao, 7 Oct 53
All leaders and soldiers of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army have re-
sponded with practical measures to the call for economy by the nation and the
party committee of the Chinese People's Volunteer
selected at meetings called by Chinese Communist Party Committeessofehigh-
level commanders of the People's Volunteer Army.
The officers-and men of a unit stationed on the front line at Sanggeml-
yong set up a small metal-working shop and used parts of damaged enemy tanks
to make various tools and quantities of nails. They constructed their quarters
by using steel be; :, lumber, and shell cases discarded by the enemy and thus
saved a considerable amount of material.
Other units have made substantial savings in rations and fodder.
CHU TE'S ORDER TO PEOPLE'S LIBERATION ARMY -- Peiping, Jen-min Jih-pao, 3 Oct 53
In an order to the Chinese People's Liberation Army on National Day,
1 October 53, Commander in Chief Chu Te stressed the necessity for an early po-
litical conference and a peaceful settlement of the Korean problem. He urged
military personnel to increase their state of preparedness technically, cul-
turally, and physically.
