THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION USSR PRODUCTION OF TURBINES POaER UNITS, AND BOILERS TO INCREASE TURBINE PRODUCTION -- Petrozavodsk, Leninskoye Znamya, 22 Sep 53 In 1955, the four largest boiler and turbine plants in the USSR -- the Leningrad Metal Plant imeni Stalin, the Khar'kov Turbogenerator Plant imeni Kirov, the Taganrog Krasnyy Kotel'shchik Plant and the Podol'sk Plant imeni Ordzhonikidze -- are to turn out 2.3 times their 1950 production of steam turbines and 7.8 times their 1950 production of hydroturbines. TURBINES COMPLETED FOR KOLKHOZ, INTERKOLKHOZ USE -- Moscow, Trud, 4 Oct 53 The Riga Turbine Machinery Plant has just completed the assembly of a hydroturbine destined for kolkhoz use. In October, the plant will produce one more such turbine. Workers have pledged completion of one above-plan turbine in honor of the anniversary of the October Revolution. This turbine will be installed at the Michurinsk Interkolkhoz Hydroelectric Station in Krasnodarskiy Kray. TURBINE SHAFT AND STATOR COMPLETED FOR GES -- Moscow, Moskovskaya Pravda, 19 Aug 53 The Novo-Kramatorsk Machine Building Plant imeni Stalin has finished forg- ing the first shaft for turbines of the Kuybyshevskaya GES. Five tons of metal were saved by decreasing the allowance on the forging. Capitalizing on the ex- perience acquired in making similar parts, the forge shop reduced the production time of the shaft by 10 hours. The 207-ton unit con- sists of 16 sectors and 8 columns 4.5 meters high, all of which were cast sepa- rately and welded together by a new process. After heat treatment, the stator will be sent to the Leningrad Metal Plant imeni Stalin. NEW EQUIPMENT INSTALLED -- Vil'nyus, Sovetskaya Litva, 8 Oct 53 The Kaunas Pergale Plant is increasing its tempo of installing new equip- ment received from sister republics. Radial drilling, horizontal drilling, and piano-milling machines are among the plant's new acquisitions. These machines will process parts for some new turbines, more powerful than those previously produced by the plant. EXPERIMENTAL TURBINE COMPLETED -- Leningradskaya Pravda, PO Aug 53 The Leningrad Experimental Plant of the Central Scientific Research Insti- i'te of the Boiler and Turbine Industry has completed an experimental gas tur- bine, the MGT-2, 2 months ahead of plan. It is designed so that the working parts may be observed during operation. This should greatly facilitate the choice of the best type of blade, an important factor in the turbine's effi- ciency. LOCOMOBILES SHIPPED TO KOLKHOZES -- Petrozavodsk, Leninskoye Znamya. 9 Oct 53 The Kherson Locomobile Plant is daily shipping dozens of P-38 locomobiles to various parts of the country. This machine makes possible the complete mech- anization and electrification of livestock farms on kolkhozes. The shop where boilers, combustion chambers, and other parts of the loco- mobile are produced on a constant-flow basis is being re-equipped. This should raise output considerably. The plant has constructed an experimental model of a unit designed to sup- ply steam for heating purposes and to generate electricity at MTS and sovkhozes. POWER PLANTS BEING PRODUCED FOR KOLKHOZES -- Moscow, Izvestiya, 11 Oct 53 The Perovo Machinery Plant of the Ministry of Agriculture and Procurement USSR has begun production of LFU-1 steam power plants for livestock kolkhoz use. This installation was dveloped by the All-Union Scientific Research Institute for the Mechanization of Agriculture. The LPU-1 consists of a water-tube boiler and a high-speed one-cylinder steam engine and generator, mounted together. The boiler can utilize various solid fuels including firewood. In one shift the plant generates 200-250 kilo- watt-hours of electricity and up to 2,500 kilograms of steam. It also heats 1,000-1,200 liters of water per hour. Simple in construction, the installation can be operated and serviced by one mechanic. On the basis of its performance there, the power plant has been accepted for series production. PRODUCTION OF MEDIUM BOILERS PLANNED -- Vil'nyus, Sovetskaya Litva, 18 Sep 53 The Taganrog Krasnyy Kotel'shchik Plant has completed preparations for producing a beri-s of unified boilers of medium productivity, for use at city and industrial electric power plants. They are designed to burn coal, peat, wood or mazut. NEW FEED-WATER PUMP TESTED -- Riga, Sovetskaya Latviya, 3 Sep 53 The Leningrad Metal Plant imeni Stalin has finished testing a highly effi- cient feed-water pump. It will supply water to the boiler of a steam turbine of 150,000 kilowatts' capacity, which is manufactured by ttie same plant. - 3 - CONFIDENTIAL Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/09/02 : CIA-RDP80-00809A000700170273-9
