THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION HAULING OPERATIONS OR USSR RAILWAYS IMPORTANT FREIGHT STATIONS -- Moscow, Gudok, 21 Oct 53 The task now confronting the railroad workers is the continuous fulfillment of the state hauling plan for all types of freight. Daily, the railroad systems must work out operational measures, paying particular attention to the loading points of important types of freight, including consumer goods. Of all the freight hauled on USSR railroads, 17 stations handle 31 percent of all sugar, 21 stations handle 51 percent of all cloth, 16 stations handle 50 percent of all cotton, and 5 stations handle 73 percent of all salt. A steady flow of empties must be provided to these stations. HAULING CONSUMED GOODS ON TRANSBAYKAL SYSTEM -- Moscow, Gudok, 24 Oct 53 The variety of goods hauled on the Transbaykal Railroad System is con- stantly increasing. In the third quarter of 1953, the trade organizations of Chitinskaya Oblast received for public sale 12 percent more silk fabrics, 54 percent more woolen fabrics, and 17 percent more sewn articles than in the second quarter of 1953. In September alone, 20 million rubles' worth of manu- factured goods and food products were loaded and sent to the agricultural re- gions. The hauling of consumer goods in October has increased and the monthly plan for loading and dispatching has been completed ahead of schedule. On 23 October on the Transbaykal Railroad System, the following were loaded above the plan: 78 cars of meat, 50 care of vegetables, and 83 cars of footwear, clothing, bicycles, and other manufactured goods. Six million rubles' worth of cement, slate, iron, and other construction materials were sent to the agricultural regions for MT5 and kolkhozes. Sanitized Copy Approved for Release I? Twenty cars of apples, bananas, and watermelons have al- ready arrived (at Chita). Four cars of motorcycles and various types of cul- tural goods will soon arrive. CONSUMER GOODS ON BELORUSSIAN SYSTEM -- Moscow, Gudok, 25 Oct 53 During September and 20 days of October, 27,000 cars with various types of food and manufactured products were loaded and sent from stations of the Belorussian Railroad System. There were 120 cars of confectionery, 65 cars of canned goods, and more than 150 cars of butter dispatched above the norm. Striving for an increase in consumer goods hauled, station workers have improved the technology of loading and classification work and have reduced car layover time. The crew of the Minsk-Tovarnyy-Vostochnyy Station, in the second 10-day period of October, reduced car layover time by .9 hours below the norm. QUICKER HANDLING, PRESERVATION OF CONSUMER GOODS -- Ashkhabad, Turkmenskaya Iskra, 11 Dec 53 On the Ashkhabad Railroad System, there has been an increase in the flow of consumer goods. The November flow, by comparison with September, has in- creased 50 percent. For more rapid movement of freight, a number of technical and organizational measures have been provided. In the freight office of the administration of the Ashkhabad Railroad System, two groups have been created to provide for the movement of food and manufactured products. For the hauling of less-than-carload consignments,a department has been organized, an additional number of local-distributing cars have been provided, and a special graph for their operation has been set up. The number of inspectors has been increased for a tighter control over the hauling of consumer goods. The construction of a new container-handling area is being completed at Nary Station, and Nebit-Dag Station has begun the equipping of a container- handling point. In ehkhabad, final preparations are now being made for the erection of a new ice plant for icing transit perishable freight. With the operation of this ice station, it will no longer be necessary to transport ice from Stalinabad. NEW FREIGHT, BAGGAGE HALING METHOD ON BALTIC SYSTEM -- Tallin, Sovetskaya Estoniya, 12 Dec 53 A new system for the reception of freight from organizations, kolkhozes, kolkhoz workers, and the city population has been introduced on the Baltic Railroad System. The necessary paper work for the reception of baggage has been simplified and the requirements for hauling agricultural freight have been changed. Under the new system, kolkhoz workers wishing to transport agricultural products need only present a statement that they belong to an artel. This gives them the right to transport produce `reigning up to 100 kilograms on local and suburban trains. The railroad tariffs for hauling agricultural freight in package consign- ments have been reduced 15-25 percent. The norm for hand luggage in local and suburban trains hr? .,een increased from 16 to 35 kilograms, and 50-75 kilogram, of bag- qe may be hauled in the baggage car on each ticket. ORATION OF ABOVE_NORtd-WEIGHT CONSISTS -- Kishinev, Sovetskaya Moldaviya, 11 Dec 53 A train was recently dispatched from Bendery Station with more than 2,000 tons of freight. This was the last above-norm-weight consist under the 1953 plan for freight transportation. have During 11 months of 1953, the locomotive engineers of Bendery Station operated 4,500 above -norm. weight consists, hauling hundreds of thousands of tone of freight above the norm. Nearly 7,000 tons of fuel were saved. Alma-Ate, Kazakhstanskaya Pravda, 12 Dec 53 Since the beginning of 1953, engineers of the Kurort Borovoye Engine Terminal of theKaraganda Railroad System have operated 2,200 above-norm- weight consists hauling 800,000 tons of freight above the norm. The crew of the running-gear repair shop of the terminal have already completed the yearly plan and have promised to finish repairs on five more locomotives [before the end of the year].
