NOWA HUTA, NEW INDUSTRIAL CITY IN POLAND -- Paris, La Journee du Batiment,

Nova Huta, a newly established industrial city in the suburbs of Krakow,
has 35,000 inhabitants. By 1957, it is expected to have a population of 100,000.
The city has 123 kilometers of hard-surface streets, i0 kilometers of water mains,
and 28 kilometers of sewers. Streetcars between Nowa Hute and Krakow run every
2 minutes during rush hours. The plan for 1953 provides for 7,000 dwelling units
with social and cultural centers. The six large, separated districts of Nowa Huta
will eventually be united by a central city district.
SLUZEWIEC INDUSTRIAL CENTER -- Paris, La Journee du Batiment, 25 Nov 53
At Sluzewiec, in South Warsaw, a new industrial center is being built on an
area of 240 hectares. Under construction are a streetcar line, a network of rail-
road sidings, large clothing stores, an elevator and hoist plant, and a factory
for recovering waste products. Future projects include two metallurgical plants,
a meat-processing plant, and a row of modern stores in the southern section of
the center.

The city of Komlo is being built at the foot of the Mecsek Mountains, in
the heart of a brown coal basin about 20 kilometers from Pecs. The population
of Komlo increased from 4,000 in 1950 to 17,000 in 1952, and will be 30,000 in
1954.
