Several enterprises of the Ministry of Electric Power Stations and Electri-
cal Industry are lagging in deliveries of electric motors, armored cable, and other
products. The Yerevan and Baku transformer pla.',ts have not been fulfilling their
assignments satisfactorily.
LOWER COSTS AT LATVENERGO PLANT -- Riga, Sovetskaya Latviya, 9 Oct 53
In the first half of 1953, the Riga Latvenergo Plant reduced production
costs 6.8 percent as compared to the corresponding period in 1952.
Formerly, labor productivity in the tool shop was low, the quality of re-
pairs was poor, and the cost of repairs was constantly above the plan. Now the
tool shop receives strict quotas for the use of labor, for wages, and for over-
ha.ad costs; these items are constantly checked. The shop has caught up with
the rest of the plant and improved the quality of its work.
In 1953, the plant has received power presses for stamping parts, a hy-
draulic press, high-production gear-cutting machines, and mobile cranes. Two
mobile cranes with a capacity of 5-20 tons have been repaired and put back into
operation.
By press forming parts instead of making them by hand or machining them,
been the savedproduction cost of parts has been reduced 10-15 times and materials have
saved.
A brigade in the transformer and reactor shop fulfilled its August plan
by 176.5 percent. The plant fulfilled its September plan by 145.1 percent.
SHIPS SWITCHES TO PROJECT -- Tallin, Sovetskaya Estoniya, 16 Oct 53
The Leningrad. Elektroapparat Plant has shipped a third 400,000-vomit dis-
connecting switcn for the Kuybyshev-Moscow electric power transmission line.
The plant has started building an experimental model of a 4CC,000-volt air
switch.
MESS WELDING TRANSFORMERS, MOTORS -- Yerevan, Konmunist, 27 Sep 53
The Yerevan Electrical Repair Plant makes welding transformers and elec-
tric motors for MI5, sovkhozes, and kol.khozes. In 1953, the plant has not
received any complaints about the quality of its transformers or motors.
Plant workers have promised to organize the output of two new types of elec-
tric motors in 1953?
DEVEIAPS, SHIPS WELDING MACHINES -- Moscow, Pravda, 15 Oct 53
The Leningrad Elektrik Plant has developed a new machine for automatic
butt welding of steel fittings up to 60 millimeters in diameter. The first
group of these machines will be built in 1953.
The first group of overhead machines for contact welding cross-shaped..
connections for fittings is nearing completion.
The first experimental group of automatic lines for welding reinforcing
steel into special flat shapes is now being tested.

The plant has organized the production of dozens of new-design welding
machines this year and is now working on a multielectrode) -pine for elec-
tric contact welding of heavy mesh and packs of reinforcing rods. Working
sketches of the new machine have been turned over to production sections of
the plant.
