Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/09/14: CIA-RDP80-00809A000700180276-5 STAT Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/09/14: CIA-RDP80-00809A000700180276-5 HUNGARIAN SCIENTIFIC SOCIETY ELECTS OFFICERS CHIEF OFFICERS CHOSEN -- Budapest, Nepszava, 25 Sep 53 On 23 September 1953, the presidium of the Tarsadalom es Termeszettudo- manyi Ismeretterjeszto Tarsulat ( Society for the Propagation of Social and Na- tural Science) met in Budapest to elect a president, two vice-presidents, and a secretary-general. The presidium elected Rezso Bognar, Academician and Kossuth Prize winner, as president. Erik Molnar, president of the Supreme Court, and Pal Gombos, both Kossuth Prize winners and Academicians, were elected vice-presidents. Sandor Erdei became secretary-general. DEPAR'BENT LEADERS ELECTED -- Budapest, Magyar Nemzet, 5 Oct 53 The Departments of Political Science, Biology, and Public Health of the Tarsadalom es Termeszettudomanyl Ismeretterjeszto Tarsulat held constituent meetings in Budapest on 7 and 3 October 1953. The meeting of the new Department of Political Science was opened by Istvan Kovacs, secreLary -Cenerai of the Magyar Jogasz Szovetseg (Hungarian League of Lawyers). Sandor Bard.:, member of the Presidential Council and director of the Magyar Tavirati Iroda (Hungarian Telegraph Bureau) presented a report. Sandor Gaspar, member of' the Central Committee of the Hungarian Workers Party and secre- tary of the National League of Trade Unions, was elected president of the depart- ment. Sandor Bares and Istvan Kovacs became vice-presidents. The Departmect of Biology elected Academician Imre Toro as president. Academician Sandor Javorka, and Istvan Boros, director of the Museum of Natural Science, were elected vice-presidents. The society's Department of Public Health elected, Dr Ferenc Kovacs, direc- tor of the Tudogyo,yaszati Klinika (Clinic of' Lung Therapy), as president, Dr Bela Horn, director of the No 1 Clinic of' Gynecology, and Dr Bela Wald, director of' the Oruzagos Onkologiai Intezet (National Institute of Oncology), were elected vice-presidents. GEOGRAPHY, GEOLOGY HEADS ELECTED Budapest, Magyar Nemzet, 16 Oct 53 At a constituent meeting o the Department of Geography and Geology of the Tarsadalom es Termeszettudomanyi Ismeretterjeszto Tarsulat, Academician Elemer Szadeczky Kardos was elected president. Academician Elemer Vadasz, and Bela Bulla, university professor, were elected vice-presidents.
