Largest Dlunition Dump of AVH
The largest arms and munition dum?, of the AVH (Allamvedelmi Hatosag - State
Secu rity Authority) is located on Szlavi utca in Y.obanya, a suburb of Budapest.
The extensive cellars of the beer factories in this neighborhood were used as
storehouses during World War II and now have been enlarged and made bombproof by
the AVH. Above the cellars ther: is a one-story building, surrounded by a stone
wall, 2 meters high, which is topped by hall a meter of barbed wire.
The building is carefully guarded, and although there are no outward signs
that it belongs to the AVH, it is common knowledge thst factory and prison sen-
tries receive their supplies from here. Jozsef Nagy, AVH caotuin, is in charge
of the munition dump.
Munitions are generally issued on Thursday and Friday. AVH truck drivers
calling for supplies are forbidden to enter the building and must park their
trucks at the entrance. Supplies are brought Prom the cellars in elevators and
are issued only upor. presentation of an itemized requirement list.
Despite ell orerautions, su?plies have been found to be misting. First
Lieutenant Jozsef Szel, AVH munitions issuing officer, was accused of stealing
arms to equip a resistance group. It was impossible t~ determine whether or
not the charges were true, but Szel was removefl and has not been heard of since. (1)

Conservative estimates of the number ;f youths between the ages of 10 and
18 who have received paratrooper tra''7ing from the Magyar Repulo Szovetseg
(Hungarian League of Aviation) since 1948 are put at 6,000. Oi this number,
more than a thousand went on to train as pilots.

According to reports from Vienna, Hungarian and Soviet engineer troops
began construction, in December 1953, of an underground railroad betweer Zahony
