1953 FREIGHT-HAULING IN RSFSR -- Moscow, Gudok, 9 Feb 54
The Ministry of Road and Transport Management RSFSR announced that in
1953, motor freight hauling had increased 37 percent, compared to 1952, and
that river freight hauling had increased 20 percent, compared to 1952. The
year's freight turnover plan was completed, but tIere was insufficient de-
crease in the layover and empty runs of trucks.
Passenger carrying by motorbus in 1953 increased 23 percent, compared
to 1952, and the year's passenger-carrying plan was completed 110 percent.
Construction of roads of republic and local importance in 1953 increased
8 percent, compared to 1952. The capital repair of these roads in 1953 in-
creased 9 percent, compared to 1952. Nevertheless, the year's plan for
construction and maintenance of roads was not completed.
OUTER RING OF MOSCOW SUBWAY IN OPERATION -- Moscow, Pravda, 14 Mar 54
The last section of the outer ring of the Moscow subway, from Belorusskiy
Vokzal to Krymskaya Ploshchad', has been put in operation. Two new stations,
Kiyevskaya-Kol'tsevaya and Krasnopresnenskaya, have been built. The 20-
kilometer-long ring was opened to regular passenger traffic at 0600 hours on
14 March 1954. A trip around the entire ring requires 30 minutes. Gotsiridze,
Deputy Minister of Railways, and Yezhov, chief of the Moscow subway, were
present at the ceremonies opening the ring to regular operation.

The Yerevan Streetcar and Trolley-bus Administration has received some
new trolley buses. They will be used on lines No 1 and No 3.
Tbilisi, Zarya Vostoka, 15 Jul 53
During the past year, municipal transport in Tbilisi has increased consider-
ably. Thirty new streetcar trains, trolley buses, and motor coaches were put
in operation. The number of small taxis also increased. Today, 160-170 Pobeda
taxis are operating in the city.
Moscow, Komsomol'skaya Pravda, 3 Sep 53
A new streetcar line has been put into operation in Kuybyshev. It runs
from the railroad station along Ulitsa L'va Tolstogo, Kuybyshevskaya Ulitsa,
the city park, down to the Volga, and along the bank of the river to the river
station.
Moscow, Trud, 3 Dec 53
The number of passenger-bus and automobile lines in Krasnoyarsk Kray has
Increased almost three times, compared to 1950.
There is now regular bus service by ZIS-155 buses between Krasnoyarsk
and Yeniseysk. In 1953, a bus line between Kansk and Taseyevo'Nftiftge, a
distance of 133 kilometers, was opened.
Moscow, Moskovskaya Pravda, 23 Jan 54
Interurban bus service has been started between Moscow and Ryazan' and
Moscow and Kalinin. The buses travel these rjutes three times a day. The trip
to Ryazan' required 8 hours, and the trip to Kalinin requires 5 hours, with
stops at Solnechnogorsk, Klin, and the villages of Zavidovo and Goradnya.

In 1953, the municipal transportation services in Moscow carried up to 8
million passengers daily.
During 1954, municipal transport will receive extensive augmentation. A
streetcar line will be built to Moscow University. Trolley-bus lines will be
opened between Baumanskaya Ploshchad' and Izmaylovskaya Ploshchad' and between
Khoroshevskaya Ploshchad' and Leningradskaya Shosse. Ten new streetcars from
the Riga plant will be added to the service. Two are already in operation.
New trolley buses and motorbuses are to be added not only to municipal but also
to interurban service between Moscow and Kharkov, Moscow and Tula, and Moscow
and Stalinogorsk.
Moscow, Pravda, 6 Jan 54
On 5 January 1954, regular service was begun on the first streetcar line
in Ulyanovsk. The line id-14 kilometers long and provides service between
the railroad station and the northern sections of the city.

3.9 About 60 buses are providing service in Andizhan and environs. During
53, several new bus lines were opened; among them were lines berwd n,!Andizhan
and Fergana and betweenAndizhan find Markhamat.
Ashkhabad, Turkmenskaya Iskra, 8 Dec 53
The Ashkhabad Motorbus Fleet has received four new ZIS-155 buses.
The fleet is divided into two independent groups. The means for servicing
the vehicles has been augmented. Two washing installat_ons, 12 presses for
parts production, 11 compressors, 4 machines for centrifugal babbiting of bear-
ings, and other machinery has been received.

The first streetcar line has been put into ,,peration in Novocherkassk.
It is 16 kilometers lcng.
Moscow, Komsomol'skaya Pravda, 24 Jan 54
A new trolley-bus line, operating along Ulitsa Malysheva, one of the central
streets of the city, has been opened in Sverdlovsk. Bus service has been started
between Sverdlovsk and Kol'tsovo and between Shartash station and the settlement
of the Verkhisetskiy Metallurgical Plant.
