This report presents information on the industrial developments in various centers lo- catAd in the Northeasty North China, Southwest and Central and South China administrative areas during the first half of 1953?] Under the Basic Construction Program during the first half of 1953, Com- mualet China is making a great effort to promote her industries. Statistics showing pxogress on industrial construction in the various administrative areas in Chine are given below. Northeast Administrative Area Plans to develop 25 important centers during 1953 located in the North- east Administrative Area are as follo:rs: ~,... Central~outh China Administrative Area Dacause of its proximity to the Ta-yeh Iron Mine and the Ping-hsien Coal Mine, Hsiang-t'an [ 112 51 E 27 54 N), a commercial port in Hunan, is rapidly becoming an industrial center. Several thousand longshoremen and more than 10,00p construction workers are engaging in the development of Hsiang-t'an. Moreover, many new plants are being built to support its industrial develop- ment. The Hsiang-t'en Textile Mill has more than 1,000 automatic looms and several tens of thousands of spindles.
