THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION In the course of the regular exploitation oP the Hungarian press, it has been noted that since mid ~Tuly 1954, up to 2 September 1954, complete identifi- cation of the recipients of decorations has largely been discontinued. Formerly, the position (e.g., tractor driver, director of a scientific institute, etc.), the employing agency (e.g., Voros Ceillag (Red Star) Producers Cooperative, Meteorological Institute, etc.), and the place of residence of each person receiving a decoration were included in the announcements; now, such data are being omitted. Thus, the list of decorations presented on the occasion of Constitution Day, 20 August, which was published in Szabad Neo on 21 Au names as Andras Nagy, Istvan Kovacs, Istvnn Farkas, Janos Varsga,iet~udewhi hh are quite common in every Hungarian locality. Without further identification such names are as meaningless as John Smith or Tom Brown. An exception is being made for a fex high-ranking decorations. For ex- ample, the list published in Szabad Nep on 21 Au item: gust is headed by the following "On the occasion of Constitution Day, and in recognition of outstanding services rendered in connection with the worker-peasant meeting, the Presidential Council of the Hungarian People's Republic has awarded the following decorations: "The Hero of Socialist Work and the Order of Merit of the Hungarian People's Republic to Bela L. Kovacs, tractor operator of the Jaszkiser MPS, and LaJos Macko, combine operator of the Voros Csillag state farm of Beremend.
